The School Family Experience Coordinator is a key member of the Empower team responsible for building strong partnerships between the school, families, and the broader community. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, this role leads family engagement initiatives, supports school social workers, serves as a parent liaison, and ensures that families are empowered to play an active role in their child’s education. The coordinator leads various Parent Advisory Groups, organizes monthly parent engagement activities, and works collaboratively with the Student Support and Mental Health Coordinator to ensure families have access to wraparound services that meet their academic, behavioral, and emotional needs.

Executive Director Responsibilities:
Family and Community Engagement Develop and execute a comprehensive family engagement strategy aligned to the school’s mission and goals. Host monthly parent engagement events including academic nights, family workshops, cultural celebrations, and volunteer opportunities. Lead and facilitate the Parent Advisory Group, ensuring regular opportunities for parents to offer input on school operations, programming, and improvement strategies. Build strong, trust-based relationships with families through home visits, direct communication, and consistent outreach. Create a welcoming and inclusive school environment that values family voice and involvement Parent Liaison Act as the primary school liaison for families, helping them navigate academic, behavioral, and school-related processes. Serve as an advocate for families and elevate concerns, feedback, or needs to the appropriate school leaders. Support parents in understanding and engaging with curriculum, school expectations, assessments, and student support systems. Help remove barriers to engagement by connecting families to resources, offering translation services, and fostering accessibility. Represent the voice of families in school improvement efforts and work collaboratively with school leadership toincrease family participation. Social-Emotional and Social Work Support Collaborate closely with the Student Support and Mental Health Coordinator and school social workers to identify and respond to student and family needs. Coordinate referrals to community-based services such as housing assistance, mental health counseling, and food security programs. Support crisis intervention efforts and maintain contact with families receiving school-based or external services. Help reduce chronic absenteeism by engaging families and addressing barriers to consistent school attendance. Communication and Capacity Building Design and disseminate family-facing communications, including newsletters, event invitations, and school updates in accessible formats. Coordinate interpretation and translation services for non-English-speaking families. Provide training for staff on family engagement practices and cultural responsiveness. Track and report participation in family events and parent advisory sessions, using feedback and data to improve efforts. Elevate concerns, feedback, or needs to the appropriate school leaders. Support parents in understanding and engaging with curriculum, school expectations, assessments, and student support systems. Help remove barriers to engagement by connecting families to resources, offering translation services, and fostering accessibility. Represent the voice of families in school improvement efforts and work collaboratively with school leadership to increase family participation. General Attend and participate in staff meetings, professionals development, and district/school events as needed. Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission and daily operations of the district.
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, community engagement, or a related field (required) Minimum of 2 years of experience in family engagement, school-based services, or social work Demonstrated ability to build relationships with culturally and linguistically diverse families Strong communication, facilitation, and problem-solving skills Knowledge of local community resources and wraparound supports Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends Bilingual or multilingual (Spanish/English) Must pass all required background checks and meet eligibility for employment in a public charter school Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in social work, education, counseling, or related field Knowledge of school-based mental health supports or previous experience partnering with mental health professionals Experience working in an urban public or charter school environment Familiarity with MTSS, restorative practices, or trauma-informed care models Experience organizing large-scale family events, advisory groups, or advocacy initiatives
