The Impact of This Position The Outreach Services Advocate provides compassionate, trauma-informed support that empowers survivors of domestic violence to reclaim their safety, autonomy, and well-being. Through individualized counseling, therapeutic group facilitation, and crisis intervention, the advocate fosters healing and connection. By offering legal advocacy, personalized safety planning, and comprehensive referrals, the advocate helps participants navigate complex systems and access essential resources. With a commitment to accurate documentation, continuous learning, and best practices, the Outreach Services Advocate delivers high-quality, survivor-centered services that promote long-term recovery and contribute to lasting change in the community. Full disclosure of details, policies, and procedures are provided upon hire. Non-Negotiables Education and Experience Associates degree required, Bachelor’s Degree preferred or equivalent experience. Bi-lingual (English/Spanish). Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English and Spanish, preferred. Training and experience in domestic violence, crisis intervention, and/or social services, preferred. Certifications and Training Completion of First Aid and CPR certification. Successful completion of The Shelter’s Core Competency training upon hire. Demonstrated ability to advocate on behalf of victim and provide compassionate, supportive services. Essential Functions Administrative & Reporting Duties Maintain accurate and timely documentation in accordance with The Shelter’s policies and funding requirements. Participate in ongoing training and maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant laws, trends, and best practices. Crisis Intervention & Support Services Facilitate support groups and therapeutic group activities to promote healing and peer connection. Provide individual counseling, crisis intervention, emotional support, guidance, information, and referrals. Respond to crisis hotline callers seeking Outreach Services, offering immediate support, safety planning, and community resource referrals. VOCA Advocacy Support Services Help victims navigate legal systems and procedures. Offer victim’s advocacy, including assistance with restraining orders, injunctions, and other protective orders. Support victims through all stages of the criminal justice process, including post-sentencing services. Empowerment-Based Advocacy & Safety Planning Assist participants in developing and adapting personalized safety plans to enhance their well-being and security. Deliver empowerment-based advocacy services to all participants, assessing individual needs and the lethality of each situation. Personal Advocacy & Follow-Up Services Accompany victims to medical facilities and support them through emergency assistance processes, as needed (e.g., transportation, food, clothing, housing). Advocate on behalf of victims with employers, creditors, and service providers. Assist with filing for compensation and insurance claims, including workman’s compensation, unemployment, and other applicable benefits. Conduct follow-up contacts in person to offer emotional support and monitor progress. Help secure emergency financial assistance and connect victims to resources for their rights and services. Provide personal advocacy and support in accessing external agency services. Perform additional duties and projects as assigned by the Manager.
