  • The role you’ll contribute:
  • The Family Support Coordinator with OurLegacy and hospital ICU teams to guide grieving families through the initial phases of loss with an emphasis on the end-of-life decision to donate organs.

The Family Support Coordinator will support families through acute loss, discussing donation options with the legally authorized party (LAP) in cases when registered donation intentions are not known, and advising families about navigating their loved one’s donation decision in registered cases. The Family Support Coordinator completes all local documents authorizing donation, including the Donor Risk Assessment Interview (DRAI), and provides continued care thorough the donation process. The Family Support Coordinator collaborates with the organ recovery and ICU staff to offer meaningful interactions and interventions to families in crisis and supports families in an empathetic and compassionate manner that is respectful of cultural and religious beliefs. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

  • + Demonstrates, through behavior, AdventHealth Orlando’s service standards + Monitor’s donor referrals, reviews family dynamics and serves as the lead in developing plans with OurLegacy and hospital teams for donation discussion + Responds to any donation service area (DSA) hospital when directed for any potential organ/tissue donor to provide emotional support to families facing the death of a loved one who may be a suitable donor.

Performs an on-site assessment of the hospital and family dynamics to evaluate the optimal donation approach process and timing. Provides case-specific insights to OurLegacy leaders. + Rounds on actual or potential organ donor patients to ensure there are no changes requiring a response by OurLegacy. Effectively communicates with Pastoral Care, Social Work and other social services entities at the donor hospital to ensure good emotional care for the patient’s family prior to the donation discussion. + Acts as a resource for the OurLegacy OPC staff for issues or questions surrounding organ and tissue donation discussions or hospital/family dynamics. + Collaborates with OurLegacy OPC staff and Hospital Services staff to ensure excellent care for the family and exceptional customer service to hospital partners during a donation event. + Acts as the primary OurLegacy staff member responsible for obtaining authorization for organ and tissue donation. The Family Support Coordinator will stay with the family throughout the donation discussion and will complete the OurLegacy Donation Authorization and Uniformed Donor Risk Assessment Interview (DRAI) form(s). Ensures that the donation discussion fulfills OurLegacy’s Effective Request process. + Participates in OurLegacy’s Donation After-Care Program as needed and as assigned. Effectively assists the aftercare team in planning donor family events to include Donor Family Circle Annual event and Remembrance Day. + Leads case reviews of donation discussions to evaluate and improve the effective request process. + Contributes to a positive work environment in the office, at meetings and in hospitals. + Participates in meetings and leads training events as requested + Works with the Hospital and Professional Services staff to provide educational programs for ICU teams as needed to facilitate the donation process. + Participates in national conferences and training programs to keep abreast of best practice skills in obtaining donation authorization Qualifications
