S UMMARY
The Family Advocate is responsible for assisting Early Head Start families in problem solving, setting, and accomplishing family and individual goals through direct service, resources, and referrals.
HOURS:
This is a full-time position, and business hours at the Port location are Monday through Thursday 8:00 am to 5:30 pm and Friday from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm. Longer hours, evenings, and weekends may be necessary on occasion.
PAYRATE:
up to $22.50 per hour commensurate with experience.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES
Responsible for recruitment, selection, and enrollment following ERSEA (Eligibility, Recruitment, Selection, Enrollment, and Attendance) criteria. Provide support through home visits to families of infants and toddlers. Coordinate implementation of volunteer opportunities and document accordingly. Advocate for, work with, and help strengthen low-income families by assisting in setting goals, building on strengths, and developing a plan to address and support areas of concern. Family caseload will be approximately up to 40 families. Promote family partnerships through parent involvement and education activities. Maintain up to date resource library with social-emotional, mental health, and life skill materials and networks with other community agencies to keep information on family support resources. Make referrals and help families identify and access needed resources: health, mental health, social services, education, and training.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from an accredited four-year college or university in Social Work, Counseling, Human Services, Family Services, Sociology, or a related field is required. Two years of case work and related experience and/or training. Experience in Head Start/Early Head Start programs is preferred. Experience providing services to culturally diverse communities/families. Must be social media savvy, with ability to be on ELCPBC social media communicating services and mission. Bilingual and able to read, write and speak in English and Spanish or Creole, preferred.
