Summary
The Coordinator of the Services for Exceptional Children Specialized Behavioral Support Program provides instructional and managerial leadership for special instructional and/or behavioral programs designed by the District to serve students with social/emotional/behavior needs as included in their Individualized Education Plans (IEPs). The incumbent in this role serves as the program’s advocate and works with all stakeholders to create a common vision that best positions the program for success and engages students, parents/guardians and their community. The Coordinator also works collaboratively with School Principals, Assistant Principals, and District/Zone leadership to secure and allocate resources to continually improve student achievement, student behavior and/or other targeted goals of the program and builds a talented instructional and support team to ensure a safe, engaging learning environment for all students. Position will be paid on the 235-day Executive (B) Salary Schedule.
Essential Duties
Develops and monitors a comprehensive instructional and behavioral support program/framework with defined behavior competencies and interventions for students in program
Interacts with students, teachers and support staff to encourage each individual to perform at their highest level
Communicates consistently with parent/guardians regarding student progress or student needs/challenges
Establishes and maintains procedures for managing pupils’ behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere Assists in creating and monitoring the progress of specialized academic and behavior plans for each student
Ensures smooth transition of students to and from the program and their home school
Manages and evaluates all assigned program teachers and staff
Assigns teachers to classroom and students to classes
Evaluates the use of formal and informal assessments
Prepares the program budget and manages expenditures for materials and supplies
Communicates goals and expectations for teachers and behavior technicians in writing and orally
Establishes and maintains relations with parents, parent groups, school volunteers, and outside agencies
Implements School Board policies, administrative directives, and regulations relating to the program per the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)
Assists with the maintenance of all compliance tasks related to IEP development and implementation
Maintains student discipline consistent with District policies
Cooperates and collaborates positively with School Principals and District/Zone leadership
Ensures District approved physical management techniques are utilized; Assists teachers and staff in implementing physical management techniques when needed; Completes District required documentation of physical management
Exhibits professional demeanor and behavior at all times
Supervises cleanliness, security, and safety of the program
Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator
Required Education
Master’s Degree in Education
Certification/Licensure
Must hold or be eligible for Georgia Teaching or Support Certification
Georgia Leadership Certification strongly preferred
Experience Qualifications
Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience and 3 additional years of classroom teaching or school/program support experience required
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Ability to perform duties with awareness of all District requirements and Board of Education policies
Knowledge in the methods for developing lesson plans and materials, and classroom activities which stimulate learning.
Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; Ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned
Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, parents, and the school community
Ability to develop effective working relationships with staff and District employees
Ability to implement a flexible work schedule to meet the reporting deadlines
Proficiency with Microsoft applications such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint required
Ability to perform duties with a high level of detail and accuracy
Ability to self-monitor and manage multiple tasks while working individually and with members of a group
Ability to develop, implement, monitor and evaluate program goals and initiatives
Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
Excellent organizational and leadership skills
