Job Description

3rd Shift Shelter Advocate Northeast Georgia Council on Domestic Violence Hartwell, GA 30643 Northeast Georgia Council on Domestic Violence is a Not-for-Profit agency whose services include a 24-hour crisis hotline, emergency shelter, and outreach services for men, women, and child survivors of domestic violence in Hart, Franklin, and Elbert counties.

Reports To:

Shelter Manager Starting hourly rate $15 per hour.

This position is considered “essential” personnel during holidays and in times of hardship, such as extreme weather conditions and/or other emergencies.

Shelter Advocate:

The Shelter Advocate will provide supportive, trauma-informed and survivor – directed advocacy services for domestic violence survivors in the Shelter program. Utilizing best practice models, Advocates facilitate individual support services with participants to include but not limited to intakes, answering the hotline and teen-text line, safety planning, case management, file reviews, proper timely documentation, and facilitation of life skills, enrichment activities, and other activities. Candidates must exhibit a positive, non-judgmental approach to survivors. In addition, candidate must have the ability to demonstrate a clear understanding of the dynamics of domestic violence, forming proper boundaries, and use of good judgment.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Accepts and handles crisis calls providing crisis de-escalation, developing safety plans, identification or resources and referrals.
  • Provides trauma-informed direct services to survivors of domestic violence including individual service and crisis intervention as needed. Models non-violent conflict resolution and takes appropriate steps to deal with emergency situations with the goal of maintain the safety of all residents. Maintains strict standards of confidentiality.
  • Maintains current and accurate client records and files, through proper chart documentation and data entry into required computer databases. Will meet position productivity standards and meet position’s quality assurance standards.
  • Follows State and Agency guidelines when reports of child abuse and incident reports as required and notifies supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Maintaining inventory protocols and stocking pantry.
  • Providing basic need items to participants.
  • Manage hotline calls and provide guidance and assistance as needed.
  • Monitoring facility safety and confidentiality standards.
  • Completes other tasks as assigned.
Additional requirements:

Employee will be required to pass a background check and take the Department of Children and Family Services Mandated reporter training and CPR training.
