Domestic Violence Outreach and Community Education Advocate
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
The DV Outreach advocate duties include but are not limited to crisis intervention, safety planning, outreach and education, and planning and facilitating weekly support group sessions for survivors. The Advocate works collaboratively with other domestic violence and sexual assault agencies to ensure a seamless response to the needs of domestic violence survivors. The job function also includes the following: Answer incoming DV crisis line calls, conduct survivor intakes and referrals for counseling, legal assistance, children’s services, safe house, and a vast array of survivor specific needs. and safety planning with survivor. Provide presentations to community groups, schools, etc. concerning domestic violence focusing on prevention, education, and identifying signs of domestic violence. Provide literature about domestic violence throughout the community in the form of brochures and flyers with important crisis number. Network with other agencies that are potential referral sources for survivors. (DCFS, Medical Services, DA’s Office, Police and Sheriff’s Departments, etc.) Provide direct services such as hospital, personal, and criminal justice advocacy, and court accompaniment as needed. Participate in various awareness month planning activities, meeting etc. Accepting and logging donations as well as sending out thank you notes. Completing monthly stats in a timely matter
QUALIFICATIONS/ EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in human services preferred in social work, or related field Minimum two years’ experience working in crisis or trauma related services. Completion of a minimum of 40 hours of training in domestic violence and sexual assault as well as continuing education required. Demonstrated track record in advocacy, with ability to navigate multiple systems to ensure seamless services. Demonstrated respect for others’ experiences, opinions, language, values, culture, and experience working with culturally diverse populations. Desire to empower survivors and their families from diverse cultures and backgrounds and to work with multi-ethnic survivors Ability to navigate and handle complicated situations and problem solving. Ability to respectfully accept direction with professionalism from management in all circumstances. Insubordination is extremely frowned upon. Effective comprehension and communication of facts, data and stats regarding domestic violence with various media sources and outlets. Ability to follow verbal and written procedures Illustrates transparency and high integrity Demonstrates both verbal and written professional communication skills and a working knowledge of computer and office systems. Local travel necessary, reliable transportation required.
