Job Description
Campus Based Social Worker/Counselor JCFA New Orleans, LA 70121 JCFA, a non-traditional charter high school organization in south Louisiana, seeks an experienced and ambitious Social Worker/Counselor for our Jefferson Parish campuses. JCFA Charter Schools provide a non-traditional pathway for Louisiana students to earn a high school diploma. Our campuses feature a low 10:1 student-teacher ratio, and blends on-line academics with daily in-class instruction. JCFA’s year-round flexible schedule allows students to maintain jobs, to support their families and communities, and to explore opportunities unavailable in traditional high school programs. JCFA is a Louisiana homegrown and locally operated Charter Management Organization, and a member of the Louisiana Association of Public Charter Schools. JCFA currently operates two schools in the Greater New Orleans area and a third school in Lafayette. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Work collaboratively with administration and faculty to implement and reinforce all components of a consistent school culture by modeling JCFA’s expectations and policies and supports students in developing good habits Effectively and appropriately assess and address the needs, characteristics and interactions of students, families, JCFA personnel and community. Determines and implements appropriate strategies to effect changes in behavioral/social interactions of students and their families Obtains and coordinates community resources to meet students’ and families’ needs Assists families in accessing and utilizing school and community resources Assists the school/district in responding effectively to each student’s needs Develops long-term and short-term intervention plans consistent with curriculum; students’ needs, strengths, diversity and life experiences; and social and emotional factors. Completes student psycho-social histories as part of student evaluation including a parent and student interview. Identify issues or behavior problems, and provides counseling, treatment plans, referrals or workshops for students. Provides crisis intervention services. Provides individual and group counseling to students. Conducts educational and psycho-educational workshops on identified issues (e.g. safety and discipline, stress reduction, social skills) for students, parents, faculty, and staff. Works collaboratively with administration and faculty to implement and reinforce all components of school culture. Consults and collaborates with stakeholders on issues such as attendance, confidentiality, ethnicity and diversity, mental health, behavior management, discipline, crisis intervention and child abuse and neglect to maintain an awareness of best practices and best practice implementation. Advocates for appropriate services for students and their families. Participates in annual IEP meetings and Manifestation Determination Hearings, as needed. Provides individual and group treatment as indicated on Individual Education Plans (IEP),documents all clinical activity, writes annual IEP goals, notes monthly progress, and completes advisory reports related to IEP goals. Conducts functional behavior assessments and creates behavior intervention plans (FBA/BIP) as needed for students. Advises and collaborates with teachers, case managers, and teams to identify at-risk students and develop appropriate treatment plans. Documents efforts to reach non-responsive students and keeps monthly contact sheets. Reports truancy to appropriate agencies. Effectively plans, implements and evaluates programs that promote student and family success. Networks with school social workers and local mental health professionals to refer students and families to a broad range of community resources. Maintains records pertinent to students’ personal development, while maintaining confidentiality of information in accordance with requirements of the law. Participates in in-service training and continuing education requirements to maintain social work license. Conforms to the National Association of Social Work (NASW) Code of Ethics and Standards for School Social Work practice. Other duties as assigned
