Fresh Start Academy Coordinator

TERM OF EMPLOYEMENT

9 month contract; MPSD Teacher’s Pay Scale + .06 Index

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelors Degree 5 years of successful teaching experience, and experience working with children at the elementary and secondary level. The applicant shall posses the certification required by the applicable rules and regulations of the Louisiana State Department of Education and/or the Louisiana Board of Elementary & Secondary Education at the time that teh applicant begins to hold the position.

REPORTS TO

: Child Welfare & Attendance Supervisor

JOB GOAL

To manage the day-to-day operations of the fresh start academy suspension program. Ensure students assigned to the program receive academic support, behavioral interventions, and restorative practices to promote positive decision-making and reduce repeat offenses. Foster a structgured, safe, and supportive environment aligned with teh district’s educational and disciplinary objectives.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES 1.

Supervise and monitor students assigned to the fresh start academy suspension program to ensure compliance with school and program rules. 2. Coordinate with school counselors, teachers, and administrators to obtain and distribute classwork for suspended students. 3. Provide academic guidance, behavioral coaching, and restorative support to help students transition back successfully into the regular school environment. 4. Maintain daily attendance and behavioral records for each student. 5. Communicate reglarly with parents, guardians, and school personnel regarding student progress and needs. 6. Implement and monitor individualized behavior plans and restorative practices as needed. 7. Create and maintain a structured, respectful learning environment focused on accountability and growth. 8. Offer or coordinate social-emotional learning (SEL) activities and character education programming. 9. Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation when necessary, following district-approved practices. 10. Prepare reports on program effectiveness, including student outcomes and disciplinary trends. 11. Ensure a safe and clean facility, including monitoring the physical and emotional well-being or all students. 12. Attend staff meetings, professonal development, and trainings related to behavior management, trauma-informed care, and discipline alternatives. 13. Shall perform other duties as assigned by the appropriate authority.
