Hourly General Description:
The Family Liaison will play a key role in building the capacity of educators and families to collaborate around student success and connecting students and families to opportunities and resources.
Responsibilities :
Communicate with families via text, phone, and in-person Help members of their language group bring up questions and concerns at school meetings and to teachers Organizes family engagement events Communicate directly with parents at teachers’ and administrators’ requests regarding school events, class activities, specific concerns about a student, and positive reports When possible, attend school events with families Systematically put together a contact list of families, and maintain contact to inform them about school events Manages outreach to families and students at risk of chronic absenteeism Works with the district social workers, to coordinate support for students and families improving student attendance by giving cultural insights and, when needed, talking to families When appropriate, lead community meetings to discuss pertinent issues Track hours spent acting as a liaison Document the nature of activities (description of activity, mode of communication, date, follow-up when applicable) Collects, maintains, and reports accurate data to document outcomes and impact of family engagement activities at the school level, using an electronic database. Report on activities at meetings and via email/phone Maintain meeting request form via google docs so families can request meetings Liaisons will keep a Google sheet of their activities.
Qualifications Required:
Bachelor’s degree Multilingual – Proficient verbal and written communication skills in at least the target language and English Conflict negotiation training and experience Experience working with diverse families and knowledge of their needs is preferred Excellent verbal and written communication skills Proficient verbal and written communication skills in the dominant home language of the families Ability to take independent initiative, while committing to collaboration Strong organizational skills Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite Ability to create and maintain strong community collaborations Some experience in developing and/or leading interactive workshops, and training Willingness to learn and apply new skills and content Demonstrated cultural proficiency and ability to lead others in conversations of race and culture. Deep knowledge and understanding of, and demonstrated ability to connect with the ethnic background of students and families served. Fluent in English and either Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Russian, or Pushto and are familiar with the community they will serve.
