POSITION SUMMARY:
This is a full-time position working primarily Tuesday through Saturday afternoons and evenings. Tuesdays through Saturdays, with weekday shifts 11:00am
- 7:00pm, noon
- 8:00pm, and/or 1:00pm
- 9:00pm Saturday’s hours are a firm 2:15
- 10:15 PM The primary responsibility of the Lead Youth Worker is to provide quality experiences promoting the personal, educational, creative and social development of young people, helping them reach their full potential.
The right candidate will work with Youth Worker staff to create a supportive environment where young people learn: o To discover exciting new ideas and activities they are unlikely to experience anywhere else. o To experiment, make mistakes and thrive. o To treat themselves and others with kindness and respect o To be motivated, positive, and resilient. The Lead Youth Worker will work in close coordination with the Director of Changemaker Initiatives for all programming. Both the Director and the Lead will be responsible for training and managing other teen program staff. The Director and the Lead will collaboratively design and implement programming for teens.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Assists the Director of Changemaker Initiatives in designing and implementing impactful programming for teens. 2. Observes, listens to, and engages with teens and middle school students. 3. Supervises & interacts in all areas of programming including teen meals, teen center activities, Y Night, back field pick-up games, special programs, and other opportunities under the direction of the Director of Changemaker Initiatives. 4. Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards. 5. Attends staff meetings and trainings. 6. Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies. 7. Communicates openly & effectively with staff in a timely manner. 8. Maintains positive relations with parents and other staff. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. 9. Assists with other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Experience working with youth and teens. 2. Ability to form positive interactions with youth and families. 3. Strong communication skills, ability to help youth grow personally and achieve goals. 4. Ability to work as a team member to ensure safety at all times. 5. Appreciation of diversity and sensitivity to cultural differences. 6. Ability to act as a positive role model at all times. 7. Have or obtain CPR and First AID certifications within 60 days of hire. 8. Must be at least 18 years old. 9. Must have a clean driving record.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to see, hear, and communicate with general populations effectively. Ability to lift a minimum of 25 lb.
