Job Summary:
The Recovery Support Center staffing includes a Manager and three Coordinators, all of whom are people in recovery. The three Coordinators each have core duties to the Center and the members, but also each have a special focus as summarized below. The Coordinators work together, as well as with the Manager, peer leaders, and members, to ensure that the Recovery Support Center is a safe, welcoming, supportive, and consistent community for people who are sober and in recovery. Coordinators must be committed to championing recovery, providing and encouraging peer-to-peer support and helping to shape and organize the overall Peer Participatory Process that is the heart of the RSC model. Coordinators are expected to act as positive role models and peer mentors, providing guidance, support, and access to key resources that help members on their recovery journey, no matter what pathway of recovery they choose. The Member Engagement Coordinator focuses on finding ways for members to get more deeply involved in the Center through increasing participation in activities and events as well as motivating members to see themselves as contributors and developing leaders. The Member Engagement Coordinator creates volunteer opportunities for members, tracks members’ volunteer efforts, and serves as the key liaison to the Peer Advisory Board. This position has a special emphasis on the having a fundamental belief in the power of “giving back”, and the ability to see inherent strengths in all people, develop trusting and encouraging relationships that bring out these strengths, and organize and guide member-driven activities and involvement. The Member Engagement Coordinator is further guided by the St. Francis House Philosophy of Care, which commits us to being trauma informed, person-centered, and recovery-oriented in all we do. It guides how we work with guests and how we work together as an entire organization and community.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Provides individual and group supervision, support and mentoring to peer volunteers. Does not supervise any staff.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
Member Engagement Coordinator:
Learns about members’ skills, talents and interests through building trusting and motivating relationships. Works with membership and peer leaders to think of volunteer opportunities for members, and encourages members to get involved. Tracks members’ volunteer efforts: what they do, how often, etc. Supervises volunteers and provides regular individual and group-based support, focused on learning and growth. Provides coaching/mentoring to members.
All Coordinators:
Promotes safety for all members by ensuring that people in the Center are contributing positively to the recovery community. Upholds Center’s Code of Ethics and illustrates trauma-informed, recovery-oriented values. Reinforces positive messages of recovery through personal words and actions, including ensuring that language is stigma-free. Champions peer-based recovery services and encourage people to join and become active in the community Participate in and provide support for peer led activities and events Have an active and engaging presence in the day-to-day operations of the Center. Be available to members and build professional and supportive relationships around recovery, wellness, and personal growth. Welcomes people to the center. Provides Center orientations, conducts membership applications, and scans membership cards. Provides supportive redirection and/or referral for those whose presentation may suggest possible substance use or whose behavior is not consistent with the center’s expectations. Intervenes swiftly and respectfully with members when necessary, to ensure everyone is abiding by the shared rules and values of the Center. Helps members to organize themselves and their thoughts and ideas. Provides encouragement to members to get more deeply involved. Helps members to generate ideas for activities and resources that promote recovery by ensuring a focus on mind, body, and spirit. Practices motivational interviewing and other techniques central to recovery coaching practices. Ensures consistency and follow-through on commitments. Stays up to date on recovery and treatment resources. Promotes resources and provide information through postings, flyers, conversations, meetings, etc. Collaborates with other SFH staff to engage and support individual members and participants in other SFH programs. Be actively engaged in professional development and growth. Actively participates in training and workshops. Enter basic information into database and keeps all required documentation current. Tracks attendance at activities and events. Helps to organize and conduct annual member survey. Participates in weekly individual and group supervision with Program Manager. Adheres to agency code of conduct. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

Able to apply an understanding of the overall and day-to day barriers faced by individuals experiencing homelessness. Ability to utilize the participatory process model to enhance knowledge. Knowledge of addiction and various pathways of recovery. Commitment to and compassion towards persons experiencing homelessness and those who may have additional challenges (related to mental and/or physical health and various types of disabilities). Effective interpersonal skills and strong interpersonal boundaries. Knowledge of motivational interviewing and recovery coaching. Comfort and integrity in asking colleagues and manager for help, support, guidance and feedback, particularly when challenging situations arise. Have a strong belief in the power of “giving back” and the important influence it has on recovery. Proven ability to see and bring out the strengths in others, even though their challenges. Understands the importance of using a patient and encouraging, learning-oriented approach Eager to learn, try new things and actively engage in training, including gaining skills in the peer participatory model. Ability to be flexible, seeking support, feedback and guidance from the other team members. Comfort with computers including internet resources, email and Microsoft Office software. Ability to engage in professional development and growth by participating in trainings/workshops weekly individual/group supervision and SFH presentations and meetings. Proficiency in English. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail. Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines. Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate. Education and Experience:
High School diploma or equivalent. Minimum of one year of experience working directly with people experiencing homelessness and or substance abuse/recovery. Lived experience with substance recovery required with a minimum of three years sobriety and active engagement in recovery practices. Positive experience in a role that required providing direction to others, such as leading a team. Demonstrated successful, recent, employment history. Lived or work experience within a human services environment. Lived experience with homelessness preferred. Training in recovery coaching, motivational interviewing, addiction treatment, or other related areas a plus, however all hired staff will complete the Recovery Coach Academy as on the job training. Experience leveraging the time and talents of peers, volunteers and/or using a peer participatory process model strongly preferred Knowledge of Boston area recovery community, including service providers and resources. Experience using Microsoft Word (Word, Outlook, Excel, etc.) software, and extensive knowledge of HMIS database software. Bilingual Spanish a preferred. Physical Requirements Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds at times. Prolong standing and moving throughout multi-level building. Constantly operate computer and other office machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, computer printer, 2-way radio.
