CENTRAL SERVICES THERAPEUTIC SOCIAL WORKER
Major Functions:
The Therapeutic Social Worker is responsible for providing direct mental health and social-emotional support services to students in a K-12 public school setting. This role involves conducting assessments, delivering therapeutic interventions, coordinating with school staff and families, and implementing programs that promote student well-being. The Therapeutic Social Worker will work collaboratively with school counselors, psychologists, and administrators to support students facing social, emotional, and behavioral challenges that impact their academic success.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide individual and group counseling to students experiencing social, emotional, and behavioral difficulties.
- Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify student needs and develop intervention plans.
- Collaborate with teachers, school counselors, and administrators to create and implement strategies that promote student success.
- Facilitate crisis intervention and provide support for students dealing with trauma, grief, or other critical issues.
- Develop and implement social-emotional learning (SEL) programs to enhance student resilience and coping skills.
- Serve as a liaison between the school, families, and community stakeholders to ensure students receive necessary services.
- Provide training and consultation to school staff on mental health topics, trauma-informed care, and behavioral interventions.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records in compliance with school policies and legal requirements.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to contribute to student support plans.
- Advocate for students and work to remove barriers that impact their academic and personal development.
- Provides parent guardian education information on identified issues related to child development, stress reduction, discipline and safety, and teacher/parent/student communication.
- Conducts social skills groups on identified areas of concern for the students.
- Completes classroom observations.
- Conducts observations and data collections to provide strategies interventions to teachers and staff.
- Provide consultative services to parents and administration regarding student needs.
Minimum Requirements:
- Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited institution.
- Licensure as a Licensed Masters Social Worker (LMSW) or equivalent required.
- Minimum of two years of experience in school-based mental health, counseling, or social work.
- Strong knowledge of child and adolescent development, trauma-informed practices, and behavioral interventions.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.
- Experience with crisis intervention and de-escalation strategies.
- Understanding of federal and state regulations regarding student mental health and special education services.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in a public school setting.
- Training in evidence-based therapeutic approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) or Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).
- Bilingual proficiency is a plus.
