The Mississippi Department of Child Protection Services (MDCPS) is committed to protecting and nurturing Mississippi’s at-risk children and families. Second-level supervisory positions accountable for overseeing first-line supervisors of social service activities of a facility or program. Employee supervision includes hire recommendations; training; work planning, assignments, and review; and performance assessment, coaching, and progressive discipline. Supervision at this level also requires these employees to have the knowledge and skills to perform and review the work overseen. Licensure:
Create and maintain case files for foster homes; Complete the home study process in timely manner to meet all deadlines; Participate in weekly staffing with supervisors and regional staff meetings, as needed; Assist county workers when a child needs a placement; Make phone calls to available foster parents so a place can be identified; On-call for after-hours situations (rotating responsibility with other staff members); Communicate with families, service providers, parents, foster parents and the public; Communicate and coordinate with other units of the agency to serve children-in-care; Recruit foster parents at events that are often held after-hours and on weekends (rotating with other staff members); Make thorough assessments of foster care homes so children will be safe and have their needs met; Assist with shadowing new hires or showing job responsibilities to interns in the office; Attend and participate in court hearings, county conferences, Adoption Status Meetings and stakeholder meetings, as needed; Visit licensed foster homes at least each quarter; Make contact with licensed foster homes weekly/ monthly, as required by policy. “The incumbents receive training related to job content, and must pass a comprehensive test prior to continued employment and/or advancement.” What you’ll need to be Successful Professional commitment to and caring about clients and the larger profession of child welfare. Agency preferred qualifications:
Requires a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in social work, social services, psychology, educational psychology, sociology, nursing, criminal justice, counseling, marriage and family therapy, family studies, or a related field. and 3-5 years of experience, and 1-3 years of supervisory experience. Appointing authority may require Master’s Degree. Will also require Social Work License in state of Mississippi. The incumbents receive training related to job content, and must pass a comprehensive test prior to continued employment and/or advancement.
