We encourage self-sufficiency and promote personal responsibility. The agency is a Level II agency with responsibilities for Child and Adult Protective Services, Child Support Administration, Services to Adult and Families and for determining eligibility for all of the public assistance programs including Work First, Medicaid, Food and Nutritional Services, Low Income Energy Assistance, Crisis Intervention Program—as well as other programs such as FEMA and Share the Warmth when appropriate. This temporary, part-time position will intensively work with children and families involved in the foster care system to build parenting capacity, quality visitation opportunities and enhance skillsets in an independent casework experience. The goal of this position is aimed to reduce time for children in foster care and enhance familial relationships through contact. Responsibilities This position is a temporary, part-time position that is a part of the Child Welfare Team, with a focus on improving quality visitation and contact with families and children involved in the foster care setting. Work involves working alongside individuals to further develop knowledge and understanding of child and family well-being and parenting skills. It will provide transportation for parent engagement opportunities or other appointments aimed at achieving reunification. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school of social work; or four year degree in a human service field or related curriculum including at least 18 semester hours in courses related to social work or counseling and six months of social work or counseling experience; four year degree and one year of experience in counseling or in a related human service field which provides experience in techniques of counseling, casework, group work, or community organization, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. All DSS positions are subject to reallocation contingent upon funding, agency needs and client population. This position is temporary. Skills & Abilities Knowledge of methods and principles of casework in child welfare. Considerable knowledge of social work principles, techniques and practices and their application to specific casework and community problems. Considerable knowledge of behavioral and socio-economic problems and their treatment and governmental and private organizations and community resources. Considerable knowledge of the laws, regulations and policies which govern social work programs. Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely and to plan and execute work effectively. Strong abilities in time management, flexibility and attention to detail. Ability to work well under high stress, quick moving environments. Strong communication skills in both oral and written form. Ability to build rapport with challenging populations to word towards a common goal. Ability to diffuse tense situations and maintain composure. Considerable knowledge of Child Welfare policy, procedure and practice and the ability to demonstrate such knowledge
