DESCRIPTION

Family Abuse Services is seeking a full time Underserved Populations (USP) Coordinator. Using the empowerment model, the applicant will provide direct services to victims of domestic violence, stalking, and elder abuse in predominantly underserved areas in the county, particularly victims in public housing. This position will provide crisis counseling, safety planning, assistance with domestic violence protective orders, accompaniment to the hospital, civil court and criminal court, domestic violence information and emotional support. This position will also provide information and referrals to medical, legal, financial, health, housing, and mental health services. This position will work to reduce and eliminate barriers for underserved victims accessing services and systems. This position will work 50% of the time on-site at the Burlington Housing Authority to provide direct services and connect victims to services at the Family Justice Center. This position is grant funded, and 100% of time will be allocated to GCC grant activities.

QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience:

B.A. or B.S. in related field and/or 3 years’ experience providing victim advocacy services Experience working with underserved and marginalized communities Bilingual English/Spanish a plus

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to work independently with moderate supervision using problem-solving skills Excellent written and verbal communications and working knowledge of basic applicable technology Demonstrated skills in working in a team Solid understanding of the root causes, dynamics and prevention strategies for intimate partner violence, including empowerment-based advocacy and trauma informed approaches. Ability to contribute to the empowerment of agency client by acting in a respectful, non-judgmental and confidential manner Commitment to issues of diversity, intersection of oppression, and the development of culturally relevant programs to ALL victims. Applicant should assist victims without regard to race, color, national origin, age, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, marital status, disability, military/veteran status, citizenship status, religion or political affiliation, past convictions or incarceration, prior psychiatric treatment, or any other status protected by federal or state law, local ordinance or Executive Orders.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

Eliminate barriers for underserved victims accessing services by providing information, referrals, and assistants to clients on-site at the housing authorities and at the Family Justice Center. Provide Crisis Counseling and safety planning services to walk-in victims of domestic violence, stalking, and elder abuse Present victims all their options including: safety planning, finding safe shelter, making police reports, e- filing 50B protective orders, and completing 50C no-contact orders. Accompany victims, as needed, to the hospital, criminal and civil courts Provide referrals for medical and mental health needs, legal assistance, financial and food assistance, housing, budgeting, educational and job readiness services. Provide advocacy and accompaniment to prosecution interviews, law enforcement interviews, and forensic interviews. Answer crisis line calls and Lethality Assessment phone calls to provide support to victims in crisis. Assist victims with filing Victim’s Compensation claims, completing Victim Impact Statements, and filing Address Confidentiality Applications. Maintain close relationships with the Family Justice Center partners and community partners in order to ensure appropriate referrals are made. Act as an agency liaison with law enforcement, public housing, task forces/committees focused on reaching underserved populations Develop and facilitate educational programming to reach underserved populations through outreach events, workshops, presentations, Create and update client records and input data on Osnium database
