Description of Work We are looking for candidates who have a passion for helping court-involved youth. We are Working Together to Strengthen North Carolina’s Youth and Families! This position is located at Cabarrus Youth Development Center in Concord, NC. The primary purpose of this position is to provide professional and administrative supervision and support to Social Worker III positions at the Juvenile Justice Youth Development Center (YDC). The Social Worker III position provides case management services to juveniles who are adjudicated and committed to secure custody within a state-run YDC. Duties of the supervision provided include regular face-to-face contacts with each Social Worker III to: Communicates performance expectations, promotes knowledge of the social work profession and division policies, encourages professional growth, enhances skills, and provides accountability and oversight for social work services. Engages in direct observation of social workers’ facilitation of Service Planning Meetings and other collaborative interactions and provides feedback to ensure delivery of quality social work services. Reviews and provides feedback and instruction to Social Worker IIIs regarding case documentation, including social histories, NC-JOIN entries, Individual Service Plans, service plan reviews, post-release planning and forms, and related reports which ensure consistency and appropriateness of services planned and provided for the juvenile. Assists Service Planning Team members with complex cases as well as with resolving disagreements to enhance team effectiveness. (The multi-disciplinary Service Planning Team (SPT) consists of: the youth, youth’s parent/guardian, youth’s assigned court counselor, YDC teachers, nurses, and direct care staff, and others involved in the treatment of the juvenile.) Assists Social Worker III (s) in preparing for court hearings and may accompany them to court, as needed. Monitors the implementation of policies and procedures related to social work responsibilities, and provides or ensures training is received, and guidance is provided to this end. Serves as part of the YDC facility management team which is led by the facility director, and consists of the assistant director, youth counselor supervisor(s), psychological program manager, principal, nursing staff, and other staff identified by the Facility Director. May provide clinical supervision for up to two licensed clinical social workers. May, on occasion, provide metal health services directly to juveniles with complex needs: mental health screenings, assessments, behavioral programming, individual and group psycho-therapy, and crisis intervention.
Work Schedule:
This is a full-time position. Work schedule is Monday-Friday 8am-5pm. We offer great Benefits! Demonstrated experience with methods and principles of casework supervision and training while maintaining social work principles, techniques, and practices. Knowledge of behavioral and socioeconomic problems and their treatment and governmental and private organizations and/or community resources. Knowledge of the laws, regulations, and policies which govern social work programs and social work ethics. Demonstrated experience with supervising and training social workers, students, interns or other staff. Demonstrated experience with establishing rapport with a client and in applying intervention techniques or assessing psychosocial, behavioral, and/or psychological aspects of client problems and treatment planning.
Management Preferences:
These skills are not required but managers may choose to interview/select applicants who demonstrate Management Preferences.
