Counselor Locations:
Fort Liberty, NC Job Summary The New Parent Support Program (NPSP) Counselor provides direct, intensive, strengths-based services under the New Parent Support Program (NPSP), a secondary prevention initiative of the Family Advocacy Program (FAP). The role focuses on educating and supporting military families with expectant parents and/or children up to three years old to prevent child abuse and neglect and enhance child development and family functioning. Major Responsibilities/Activities Conduct home visits with families at risk for child abuse and neglect, focusing on prevention and early intervention. Perform biopsychosocial intake assessments, Family Needs Screenings (FNS), and develop Family Service Plans (FSP). Provide education on parenting, child development, child safety, and emotional well-being (e.g., postpartum depression). Facilitate parent education classes, playgroups, and public awareness campaigns. Coordinate with community resources and make referrals. Maintain detailed documentation in the Army Family Web Portal (AFWP). Participate in clinical and multidisciplinary team meetings (e.g., IDC-CCSM, FAC). Respond to clinic/hospital referrals and participate in training and outreach with medical staff. Minimum Requirements Master’s degree in social work or marriage/family therapy and a valid clinical license, or Bachelor’s degree in nursing, current unrestricted RN license, and 2 years of relevant experience. Minimum 2 years of experience in child abuse/domestic violence, maternal/child health, or public health. Must maintain a valid driver’s license. Familiarity with military culture is preferred. Pass a background check including a National Sex Offender Registry check and state child abuse registry verification.
