Job Summary:
Davidson County School Readiness, part of Davidson County Schools, operates the Parents as Teachers program with funding from Smart Start of Davidson County. Our Parent Educator acts as a supportive ambassador for young children and families in Davidson County. Through positive education and family support, the Parent Educator collaborates with families to strengthen relationships, enhance parenting practices, and increase understanding of child development. This teamwork aims to help children learn, grow, and achieve their full potential, ensuring they enter school happy, healthy, and ready to learn.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Facilitate the Parents as Teachers home visitation curriculum in accordance with model fidelity. Provide information on parenting skills, normal child development, appropriate discipline strategies, nutrition, and other developmental topics. Build engaging relationships with families that promote positive interaction and open communication. Establish goal-centric relationships, providing support and resources to help families achieve their documented goals. Work collaboratively with families to identify and address barriers, making referrals to other community resources. Build and maintain a full caseload, scheduling home visits twice each month with each enrolled family. Maintain detailed files of each family in the program’s database: Visit Tracker; responsible for updating family files after each visit. Complete calendar, timesheets, and mileage reports each month. Administer developmental screenings to children using appropriate screening tools, which may include but are not limited to the Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ-3 and ASQ-SE). Administer screenings to parents using appropriate screening tools, which may include but are not limited to the PICCOLO, Family Synthesis Record, and PHQ-9. Share screening results with parents to inform them of their child’s development and create action plans based on results. Make early intervention and other community agency referrals as applicable. Facilitate various group connections each year. Collaborate with other Parent Educators to plan, facilitate, and evaluate group education opportunities. Work with community partners to promote community outreach and educational opportunities. Stay committed to continuous quality improvement, sharing opportunities for improvement and actively participating in the development of innovative ideas to enhance Davidson County School Readiness. Represent Davidson County School Readiness at community meetings as needed. Attend monthly staff meetings, professional development opportunities, and agency-wide retreats and meetings. Show strong commitment to accountability, measuring outcomes, and maintaining high-quality engagement with families. Serve as an ambassador of Davidson County School Readiness; actively engage in driving the mission of the organization.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED (required). Completion of Parents as Teachers training (foundational and model implementation) within 90 days of hire. Strong interpersonal communication and leadership skills; able to lead meaningful conversations Team player with a collaborative spirit and respect for diversity. Preferred Qualifications:
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, social work, or related field. Experience working with children and families in educational, social service, or community programs.
Certifications:
Completion of Parents as Teachers Foundational and Model Implementation training (to be completed during onboarding).
Skills/Qualities:
