Monday – Friday 9-5 The Office of Survivor Care is a newly established entity created in response to the recommendations of the Community Safety & Wellness Task Force. This task force, led by members of the community, was formed to address critical issues surrounding safety, well-being, and the need for comprehensive support for survivors of violence and trauma. Its work underscored the importance of a dedicated office to provide holistic, survivor-centered services and resources, ensuring individuals impacted by violence receive the care and advocacy they need to heal and thrive. The Office of Survivor Care embodies this vision, prioritizing collaboration, equity, and community-driven solutions. Community Safety & Wellness Task Force | Durham, NC The Office of Survivor Care is seeking an experienced and motivated Program Manager to lead the development, implementation, and management of this newly established office. The Program Manager will supervise a small, dedicated team focused on providing support to survivors of community violence. This role will involve collaborating with local organizations, law enforcement, healthcare providers, and other community resources to ensure a coordinated, trauma-informed response. The ideal candidate will have experience in project management, be well-versed in best practices related to survivor care, community-based interventions, and violence prevention, and will play a key role in shaping the mission and effectiveness of this critical program. This position sits within the Community Safety Department. This department also houses the city’s HEART team, an alternative response program. This position will start as a pilot and as a 3-year position, full time with benefits, with the possibility of continuation after the pilot dependent upon pilot results and available funding. This position will report to the Clinical Manger for Durham’s Community Safety Department. Duties/Responsibilities Provide trauma-informed bridge therapy and short-term case management to survivors of gun violence and their families. Conduct clinical assessments and develop collaborative care plans grounded in the goals and needs identified by survivors. Provide psychoeducation and supportive counseling around trauma, grief, safety, and healing. Coordinate care and facilitate warm handoffs to community-based providers, including mental health services, victim services, housing supports, and legal advocacy. Build and maintain collaborative relationships with community partners, grassroots organizations, faith-based groups, and service providers in Durham. Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, case consultations, and community violence response efforts. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of services in accordance with departmental and ethical standards. Participate in community outreach and engagement efforts to increase awareness of the Office of Survivor Care and available resources. Contribute to the development of trauma-informed practices and policies within the Office of Survivor Care. Minimum Qualifications & Experience Master’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or related field required. Provisionally licensed or fully licensed professional within any of the following areas: Licensed or Provisionally Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC/A) Licensed or Provisionally Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW/A) Licensed or Provisionally Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT/A) Four years of experience related to assignment Demonstrated experience providing therapy and/or case management to individuals and families impacted by trauma or violence. Deep understanding of trauma-informed, survivor-centered, and culturally responsive care practices. Experience working in community-based settings and collaborating with diverse partners. Strong organizational, documentation, and communication skills. Commitment to equity, anti-racism, and healing-centered engagement. A valid, unrestricted, North Carolina driver’s license, or if a valid license from a State other than North Carolina, must be willing and able to obtain a valid, unrestricted NC driver’s license within 60 days of hire). Additional Preferred Skills Strong understanding of best practices in trauma-informed care, crisis intervention, and violence prevention. Familiarity with local resources and services for survivors of violence, including legal, medical, and counseling supports. Knowledge of community-based approaches to addressing violence and systemic barriers affecting marginalized populations.
