Description of Work Wright School We are currently recruiting for a School Educator IV to function as an Assessment Coordinator at Wright School in Durham, North Carolina. The primary purpose of this position is to individually assess and/or provide services to children admitted to treatment at the Wright School. Duties and responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to the following: Ensure that Wright School maintains compliance with all state and federal exceptional children’s regulations including eligibility determination, IEP development, progress monitoring, IEP compliance process, maintenance of required documentation in ECATS, maintenance of required documentation in Power school. Coordinate student assessments by overseeing integration of assessments from multiple disciplines including teacher counselors (special education), Educational Diagnostician, psychology, speech-language, occupational therapy, psychiatry, and social work. Work toward identifying the most efficient and effective use of human resources to meet the day-to-day needs of children in the treatment milieu including managing crisis situations involving managing student behavior, solve problems with children, assess at risk behavior, manage medical emergencies, balance the needs of students with available resources, and provide emergency on-call coverage to the building. Work with the Chief Operating Officer to ensure related service providers required to meet EC compliance rules are identified, recruited, hired, scheduled, and managed according to DHHS contracting rules. These services can include occupational therapy, psychological services, speech and Language services, physical therapy services, and specialized providers for hearing/vision/mobility needs. Directly supervise the Educational Diagnostician and Speech and Language Pathologist who provide assessment and intervention services for all students admitted to Wright School. The normal working hours for this position are Monday – Friday; 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.; however, flexibility is required to meet facility needs. The NC Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) it’s one of the largest most complex agencies in the state with approximately 18,000 employees. In collaboration with its partners, it is responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of all North Carolinians. Wright School delivers treatment services using the Re-Education philosophy, model and related staffing pattern. Rather than a medical model where treatment services are delivered by a variety of specialist (nurses, occupational therapists, recreational therapists, art therapists, play therapist, rehabilitation therapist, etc.) the primary agents of change at Wright School are Teacher/Counselors, supported by the EDA staff. Educational and mental health professionals are cross trained and the methodology, vocabulary laws and regulations of both disciplines. Treatment services are planned and delivered by the milieu team of Teachers/Counselors and EDAs and include social skills training, cognitive behavioral therapy, group problem solving, individual and group behavior management programs. Treatment services to families are also delivered by Liaison Teacher/Counselors who provide a variety of skill-based training to families and how to meet children’s special needs at home. Knowledge of practices in the fields of special education, speech language, psychology, and allied health professions
Management Preferences:
Experience and training in Exceptional Children’s (EC) eligibility determination process
Experience with ECATS and PowerSchool
Knowledge of the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA)
