Head of School Join Durham Nativity School as our next School Social Worker or Counselor and become a vital part of a team dedicated to student success. We’re seeking an individual with a passion for innovation to develop and lead a comprehensive support program that champions student well-being, ignites social-emotional growth, and paves the way for their future in high school, college, and beyond. This role demands an entrepreneurial mindset and the ability to proactively connect our school with the wealth of resources available throughout the Triangle, including other schools, universities, and community organizations. A key focus will be strengthening our home-school partnership, creating a seamless and supportive environment where families are empowered and fully engaged in their child’s development. The successful candidate will bring a genuine commitment to holistic student development and an expert-level understanding of best practices in counseling and social work. You will inspire critical thinking and resilience in our students, setting a relevant and rigorous standard for their growth.   • 7:30 am Oversees purchasing and set up of breakfast, lunch, and snacks Supervises breakfast, lunch, and recess Strengthens the connections of home, school, and community by identifying and linking essential components to creating the best learning environment for the student, and to personalize and make education relevant to all constituents connected to Durham Nativity School.

Observes and monitors students to facilitate supportive counseling for student and parent as needed. Teaches character development and SEL classes. Oversees the school’s meal program and pantry. Facilitates Parent Empowerment Program (PEP) Executive Board meetings and helps set the agenda for PEP meetings. Assists with planning and programming for the school. Builds mutual communication and support among all Durham Nativity School stakeholders Develops systemic prevention and remedial intervention programs for identified problems Conducts home visits when students and families are on-boarded to the school Assesses and intervenes in the social and emotional needs of students in relation to learning, understanding, evaluating, and improving the total environment of the student; makes psychological testing referrals. Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) 1-3 years of experience in public social services, school social work, or school counseling Bilingual in English and Spanish, preferred, but not required Experience with adolescent, minority populations Positive evaluations from current/former supervisors Experience and understanding of more field work than office work with families
