REQUIRED EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in social work or related human services field. Two years’ community outreach experience and/or working with youth. Current certification for Adult CPR and Basic First Aid.

JOB POSTING

Performs coordinated case management and advocacy for runaway, homeless, and street youth in New Hanover area. Works directly with youth to ensure that basic needs are met, and long-term goals are identified. Serves as a resource referral to connect youth with various community partners. Organizes community events to market the program in addition to educating the public on available services provided by Open House. Implements outreach efforts, encourages community agencies to partner in serving and engaging high-risk populations. Performs street-based, community education and awareness in discussing the risks that runaway, homeless, and street youth face, and encourages the target population to receive emergency shelter, rape crisis, domestic violence, medical/health, and substance use/mental services. Provides advocacy services including telephone referrals, transportation for medical appointments and obtaining other needed community services including appointments regarding public benefits, childcare, educational enrollment, WIC, and housing. Facilitates health education to clients and encourages obtaining and maintaining wellness.

HIGHLIGHTS OF POSITIONS

Provides direct outreach services by recruiting clients from various communities for shelter and counseling services. During these recruitment endeavors, employees provide educational services by informing possible clients and interested individuals in the prevention of sexual assault/abuse of runaway, homeless, and street youth. Utilize a strengths-based approach when working with youth, fostering a positive environment and reinforcing the unique strengths of each youth. Demonstrates respect for diversity and meets each youth with a non-judgment and support. Educates agencies, employees, and the community about issues surrounding homelessness and runaway youth. Provides case management services to youth, develops measurable short and long- term goal plans, and tracks client progress. Responsible for updating and maintaining client records utilizing the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS). Responsible for maintaining an active presence on OHYS social media accounts Manage and Maintain Safe Place sites and coordination of program requirements.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Considerable knowledge of available community resources. Considerable knowledge of sexual assault/abuse and runaway, homeless youth. Ability to represent the agency and establish a rapport and respect in the community and with the target population. Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form. Ability to develop and maintain an effective working relationship with the target population, supervisors, employees, and the general public
