Brief Summary of Work for this Position The School of Social Work, located within the College of Health and Human Services, is seeking temporary/part time faculty, for the 2025-2026 Academic Year.
The 2025-2026 Academic Year includes the following semesters:
Fall 2025
Spring 2026
Summer 2026
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Undergraduate course teaching: Masters degree with 18 graduate credit hours in the teaching discipline from a regionally accredited institution.
Graduate course teaching: Terminal degree in the teaching discipline from a regionally accredited institution.
Those with equivalent verifiable professional experience, certifications, and licensures in the discipline may also be considered.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required Certifications or Licensure Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit The School of Social Work (SSW) is dedicated to the development of excellent social workers through in-depth education, professional partnerships, applied research, regional engagement, and outreach and impact. Our School prepares our students to help individuals, families, and groups discover and build upon their own strengths and external resources to meet the challenges of poverty, discrimination, health and mental health issues, and other difficult life situations. UNCW social work graduates work in social service, health, and mental health agencies in Southeastern North Carolina, throughout the state, and across the country. The School of Social Work is located in McNeill and Veterans’ Hall, state-of-the-art facilities that includes offices, classrooms, a large lecture hall, computer laboratories, a Student Learning Commons and Success Center, and a state-of-the art Simulation Learning Center. Through the use of simulation, we strive to create a realistic environment and a powerful learning experience that promotes cognitive, affective, physical, and social development for Social Work students, while incorporating interprofessional collaborative experiences with students across the other degree programs in the College.
The SSW offers both the BSW and MSW programs from the strengths’ perspective, with emphasis on practice labs, small classes, and specially reinforced field instruction. The MSW program offers two concentrations; a clinical concentration, specialized coursework in solution-focused, cognitive-behavioral, and motivational theories and a macro concentration that focuses on the interaction between the client and large systems.
We are proud to offer the following programs: full-time Bachelor in Social Work programs on the main campus in Wilmington and HST-BSW online, a full- time and advanced standing Master in Social Work program in Wilmington, part-time Master in Social Work program in Wilmington, and four courses towards LCAS credentialing in substance use disorders and addictions.
College/School Information The College of Health and Human Services was created in July 2010 to provide UNCW with a new mechanism to link and focus its health-related research, professional continuing education, and health knowledge dissemination and application. In the formative stage of development, the CHHS is currently home to three professional schools: School of Health and Applied Human Sciences, School of Nursing, and School of Social Work.
