EDUCATION AND TRAINING

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required Must hold a valid North Carolina teaching license in Social Studies. Minimum of 5 years of successful teaching experience Master’s degree preferred Experience in coaching or administrative role preferred

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

Conducts work related to the OCS Instructional Framework and improved student achievement through collaborative efforts. Plans, implements, and evaluates an educational program relevant to the needs of the student population in Onslow County Schools; Plans and supervises curriculum development and implementation, and provides centralized instructional services; Works directly with instructional coaches to create effective strategies for improvement in teaching and learning outcomes; Provides advice and counsel for instructional coaches and principals on matters pertaining to curriculum selection, implementation, delivery, and evaluation. Plans, implements, delivers, and evaluates staff development at the classroom, school, and district levels; Participates in regularly scheduled staff, district, regional, and school-level meetings; Plans and leads summer curriculum work such as writing, unpacking, prioritizing, pacing, creating assessments, and more; Assists schools and instructional coaches analyze data and identify appropriate re-teaching methods and high-yield strategies; Directs the planning, development, field-testing, and evaluation of curriculum; Assists with family and community engagement events around content areas; Assists Onslow County Schools with the selection of appropriate textbooks, teacher guides, instructional materials, and other ancillaries; Ensures ongoing opportunities for high quality professional learning and job-embedded coaching is easily accessible for all teachers implementing new curriculum, new curricular materials, or new to OCS; Designs and oversees the development of curriculum to support the implementation of the North Carolina Standard Course of Study and the OCS Instructional Framework; Supervises preparation of curricular content for instructional materials catalog; Supervises development of instructional guidelines, policies, regulations, and official notices; Manages the preparation of office budget requests and monitors expenditures; Interprets changes to the North Carolina Standard Course of Study informing instructional coaches and principals of the implications of those changes and ensuring that instruction is aligned with curriculum goals; Assists with the overall evaluation of district initiatives and programs and develops strategies for improvement; coordinates and provides staff a variety of district-wide professional development opportunities; and Provides and facilitates quality content based professional development for teachers. Performs other duties and responsibilities related to instruction as assigned by supervisor.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to be physically active, which includes, but is not limited to standing, pushing, pulling, squatting, bending, sitting, walking. Ability to reach with hands and arms routinely. Ability to operate technology for prolonged periods of time. Ability to carry furniture such as tables and chairs, supplies and materials. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds routinely and 30 pounds occasionally. Must possess sufficient auditory and visual capabilities to communicate effectively and professionally with staff, students, and parents in a variety of settings. Must be able to drive to variety of school sites. Must work indoors and outdoors year-round.
