School Social Worker 3.9 3.9 out of 5 stars Roxboro, NC 27574 Job title School Social Worker Reports to Principal; Senior Executive Director for Student Support Services Terms of Employment Salary; 10-Months Salary North Carolina Teachers’ Salary Schedule, based on teaching license; plus local supplement FLSA Status Exempt Job purpose The School Social Worker promotes and enhances the overall academic mission by providing services that strengthen home, school, and community partnerships and address barriers to learning and achievement. The School Social Worker significantly contributes to the development of a healthy, safe, and caring environment. Such an environment is achieved by advancing the understanding of the emotional and social development of children and the influences of family, community, and cultural differences on student success along with the implementation of effective intervention strategies. Qualifications North Carolina Class SWA license in Area 00006, School Social Worker, will be required. If a certificate is not held, an individual must be willing to obtain a provisional certificate and earn a regular certificate. A bachelor’s degree in social work or comparable area is required to be eligible for a provisional license. A master’s degree in social work and two years of related work experience being desirable. Clinical licensure may be required depending on job duties. Duties and responsibilities Direct Services to Students and Families Intervene, using social work methods, in situations affecting student educational progress Provide crisis intervention services Assist families with interpretation of school policies and procedures Provide appropriate services/referrals for homeless families Work with students and families to identify steps that promote school attendance Investigate, as prescribed by law, violators of the compulsory attendance law Assist with mental health screenings, psychosocial assessments and referrals

may carry a case load and provide clinically driven services and referrals. School Community Strengthen home, school, and community connections by identifying essential components to create learning environments for students Participate in case conferences with student services personnel Collaborate with community agencies Engage Students in 21st Century Learning skills Program Planning and Evaluation Assess the school and community needs Implement appropriate programs, groups and initiatives that target at risk populations Plan individual school and system-wide programs to promote a positive and caring climate Advocacy Ensure students’ educational, social, emotional, and physical needs are met in accordance with established laws and regulations Utilize skills that respect issues of cultural and ethnic diversity and equity for every student and family Consultation and Education Address child abuse and neglect, family functioning, parent involvement, school attendance Maintain working relationships with students/families, staff, administrators, and community agency staff Professional Practice, Development and Management Adhere to the values and ethics of the social work profession Organize time and workload to meet the needs of students in assigned schools Maintain accurate case records and documentation Understand and practice in accordance with, federal, state, and local laws, and/or policies that relate to students and families Determine how community resources may be beneficial to student, family, and family’s involvement in the academic process Additional Responsibilities Perform other professional responsibilities as assigned by supervisor Direct reports N/A Approved by:
