Part-Time Project RISE Group Worker The Neighborhood Center Utica, NY 13502 Hours per week : 18.75 PART TIME Rate of pay: $23.07 Hours vary

Summer Hours:

12:00pm-3:45pm School Year hours: 1:45pm-5:30pm

JOB DESCRIPTION

: The Project RISE Group Worker will work with groups of children and youth using social, recreational, and educational activities and programs. The Group Worker will become a catalyst for the development of individuals within the group as well as the group as a whole. By this method, the Group Leader will assist individuals within the groups to better relate to others and to develop skills that will enhance their abilities to become thriving, contributing members of our community. The Group Worker will coordinate with the Group Leader and staff at the Utica Zoo to develop daily group activities to be conducted at The Neighborhood Center and Utica Zoo. The staff at the Utica Zoo will assist in teaching about nature and animal habitats, as well as helping to develop healthy coping skills, empathy, and compassion while applying learned skills.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

Assist the Group Leader to plan, prepare and facilitate group activities and programs to meet the needs of children and their families. Care for the children’s physical needs as appropriate including administering first aid within the parameters of training and dispensing medications within the parameters of written regulations and policies. Transport children as programming mandates within the scope of one’s training/licensing and according to supervisory direction. Assist the Group Leader to develop individual and group objectives, prepare and record meeting records, individual summaries, group evaluations and measurable outcomes as directed. Develop and maintain cooperative relationships with parents, including but not limited to informal contacts, collateral contacts, referrals, conferences, home visits, support groups, educational and recreational family activities and maintain records of such. Provide supervisor and Group Leader with input/information as to special needs children may have, problems, incidents and emergencies to ensure proper action/intervention is taken. Attend staff or other types of meetings as required. Fulfill training requirements of all funding and regulatory bodies. Serve as a role model; supervise students, part-time staff, summer staff and volunteers as assigned. Assist with maintaining accurate records of group attendance, statistical information, records, summaries and registration information as required. Participate in program recruitment and outreach in the community. Assist supervisor in assessing the need for supplies, materials, equipment and repairs. Maintain a program environment that is safe, healthy, orderly and attractive. Participate in various related tasks as assigned or required. Maintains self in a professional manner at all times, adhering to Neighborhood center policy, procedures and in keeping with the mission statement. Punctual and regular attendance is an essential responsibility of each employee. Employees are expected to report to work as scheduled, on time and prepared to start working. Perform other duties as requested by Agency Administration.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Demonstrated extensive knowledge of community resources and multiple human service delivery systems. Demonstrated organizational, assessment and communication skills commensurate with this position. Demonstrated ability to be flexible and work independently. Valid and Clean NYS driver’s License Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Human Services, Education or closely related field with related experience preferred. OR An Associate’s Degree in Human Services or closely related field with substantial experience required or a combination of education and experience equivalent to the above.
