Job Description:
The reading specialist provides and leads reading instruction and assessment, school-wide, through a combination of intervention, coaching and modeling of research-based instructional strategies.
The reading specialist reports to the Principal. Job Duties Provide one-on-one counseling and/or group counseling to students and families Directly support the students’ social and emotional development to ensure their well-being and safety Provide crisis intervention as needed Manage, track, and document student interactions and counseling schedule Formulate socio-emotional goals with students and track progress towards attainment Collaborate and communicate with teachers and staff to meet students’ needs Ensure a safe, positive environment in group and one-on-one counseling sessions Manage aspects of the referral process for social services, partnerships, and special education services, including:
- Providing support and documentation for all students with IEPs who have behavior goals;
- Meeting regularly with students who have mandated counseling on their IEPs;
- Conducting regular assessments of current and emerging student and family needs;
- Developing and maintaining partnerships with external agencies
- Connecting individuals and families to external resources and services and when necessary
- Referring cases of suspected child abuse and/or neglect to DCYF
- Monitoring and facilitating the delivery of external resources and services
- Maintaining records and documentation in compliance with RIDE regulations Consult with the school’s Response to Intervention Team (RTI) for the purpose of developing comprehensive supports and interventions to students demonstrating challenging behaviors Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues, and respond to family concerns promptly and effectively Participate actively in team meetings, school-wide activities, professional development, and other family engagement events Communicate with proper support staff about student behavior, attendance, and other possible issues, and support Director of Education and teachers when discipline issues arise Provide recommendations to the staff around approaches to working with struggling students.
Establish a professional rapport and strong relationship with students, staff, and families, including meeting with parents regarding student issues. Display the highest ethical and professional behavior and confidentiality when working with students, parents, and staff Facilitate parent workshops based on expressed needs Participate in the screening of incoming Kindergarteners and accompany the Director on home visits of incoming
Kindergarteners Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Social Work from a regionally accredited institution Demonstration of meeting the content competencies as prescribed by the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Licensed as a Clinical Social Worker by RI Board of Registration for Social Workers OR Reciprocity through RI Approved Pathway To Apply Please submit cover letter and resume to
