Job Description

Family Room Coordinator 5.0 5.0 out of 5 stars Columbia, SC 29203 The Family Room Coordinator is responsible for the daily operations and delivery of compassionate hospitality services within the Ronald McDonald Family Room and associated hospital-based programs at partnering medical facilities. This includes the Family Room at Prisma Health Children’s Hospital – Midlands, Nourishment Rooms across multiple hospital units, the Brunch Treat Trolley program, and support for Family Room fundraising and volunteer activities. This role ensures each space is well-stocked, clean, welcoming, and operated in accordance with RMHC standards and hospital guidelines. The Coordinator also engages with families, volunteers, and hospital staff to provide meaningful support during critical times. The Family Room Coordinator is a vital part of the Programs Team, serving as a daily representative of RMHC’s mission inside hospital walls and contributing to a supportive, collaborative team culture.

Family Room Operations :
  • Maintain a warm, welcoming, and organized environment for families using the Family Room.
  • Stock and restock provisions from the Ronald McDonald House to the Family Room.
  • Greet and assist guest families with comfort items and provide compassionate support.
  • Ensure cleanliness and functionality of the space, reporting maintenance issues to the Director of Programs. Hospital Nourishment Rooms (Richland Main & Children’s Hospitals – NICU, SCN, L&D, PICU)
  • Restock Nourishment Rooms with provisions from the Family Room, based on inventory protocols.
  • Monitor and maintain adequate supplies in each location.
  • Ensure rooms are clean, orderly, and maintained; report maintenance concerns. Hospital Nourishment Rooms (Richland Baptist & Lexington Medical Center)
  • Transport and stock provisions from the Ronald McDonald House to designated hospital
  • Follow inventory tracking sheets to maintain appropriate supply levels.
  • Monitor and report cleanliness or maintenance issues. Brunch Treat Trolley Program
  • Prepare and stock the Treat Trolley daily using provided checklists.
  • Ensure timely delivery of the trolley to hospital floors, adhering to safety protocols and hospital guidelines.
  • Record guest interactions, distribution counts, and remaining inventory.
  • Maintain a cheerful, compassionate presence when engaging with hospital guests. Administrative & Volunteer Support
  • Maintain accurate inventory tracking for each program area.
  • Collaborate with the Volunteer Coordinator to schedule volunteers, provide training, and support daily volunteer activities.
  • Train and orient new volunteers for Family Room and Treat Trolley programs.
  • Communicate program needs and supply shortages to the Director of Programs in a timely manner. Program & Event Support
  • Participate in Family Room-related fundraising events, assisting with logistics and guest engagement.
  • Represent RMHC with professionalism and warmth during on-site activities and hospital collaborations.
  • Provide occasional support for House-based programs and guest needs, as directed.
Qualifications :
  • High school diploma required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum 1-2 years in a hospitality, healthcare, or nonprofit support role preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; comfort interacting with families in crisis.
  • Highly organized with the ability to multitask and manage time effectively.
  • Compassionate, team-oriented, and service-driven. Ability to lift up to 15-20 pounds and move supplies between program sites.
  • Reliable transportation and a clean driving record required.
