Job Duties:

The Family Search and Engagement Coordinator provides support to county staff around family search and engagement efforts by promoting adherence to DSS policies and procedures, agency mission, and GPS Practice Model.

Authentically engages and works collaboratively with child welfare staff, families, kin, and other professionals with empathy and respect. Responds timely and professionally to inquiries regarding family search and engagement practices.

Consults and collaborates with county staff on family search and engagement requests, from initial referral.

Conducts family search and engagement for child, youth, or young adult with no identified permanency resource through: interviews with the child(ren), parents/guardians (to include non-custodial parents), providers, schools, foster parents, etc. on an ongoing basis for both placement and maintaining family connections purposes; intensive and thorough case mining; completion of connectedness charts, ecomaps, genograms, etc.; Social media searches; and, using public records for search purposes.

Engages children, families, and others through: in-person interviews; telephone calls; text messages; emails; and certified mail.

Participates in Child and Family Team Meetings and case consultations to provide updates on the FSE process, as needed.

Documents case work activity in CAPSS system to maintain records. Teams with County to update or enter all FSE activities in CAPSS.Reviews data outcomes by reviewing county data to identify patterns in practice and procedural changes needed to move the county towards best practice. Maintains a working knowledge of DSS policies, practices, and updates.

Maintains child welfare certification. Completes 20 hours of training yearly to include certifications that are required yearly.

Performs other duties as required.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES A

Bachelor’s Degree and three (3) years of professional experience in social services programs, correctional, or educational, or relevant program experience.

A Master’s Degree and one (1) year professional experience in social services programs, correctional, or educational.

Experience in child welfare is preferred.
