Job Description The Family Service Worker is responsible for understanding adult learning principals and awareness of motivational techniques.

  • Work collaboratively with Core Teachers, Center Managers and Coordinators.
  • Attend monthly parenting meetings at assigned centers.
  • Monitor attendance weekly for assigned centers.
  • Complete follow-up on attendance issues.
  • Assist in finding resources for families.
  • Work with families to meet set goals.
  • Follow-up with parents to ensure medical and dental work required for children is updated and tracked.

The Family Service Worker must have knowledge of psychological and biological dynamics of families and is required to have effective working relationships with the public, children, parents, and coworkers and the ability to assist families in its own efforts to improve the quality of family life. The Family Service Worker must be self-directed, innovative and able to assess current child and family needs in an effort to develop practical action plans and goals to improve family functioning.

The FSW will:
  • Review case management plans.
  • Demonstrate awareness and appreciation of different culture practices and customs.
  • Ensure all records are kept confidential.
  • Recruits and enrolls eligible children for the program, including enrollment of children with disabilities.

Accepts referrals and provides other social services as needed The Family Service Worker must have excellent verbal and written skills required as well as working knowledge of computer data entry operations.

Other duties:
  • Maintain an updated community resource file in assigned county and serve as the resource person for families to facilitate access to social services within their communities.

Attend inter-agency meetings/activities in assigned county.
Follow TSU policy in work conduct including but not limited to travel, attendance, outside employment, etc.
Complete computer data entry in a timely manner.
Serve as an advocate for TSU Early Head Start-Child Care Partnership program and families served.
Participate in the Social Service Competency Based Training (S.S.C.B.T.) program unless current education is in social work.
Ability to make decisions in accordance with established procedures.
Responsible for general knowledge of state and federal regulations.
Valid TN Driver License and reliable transportation required.
Other duties assigned by Program Director and/or supervisor. Minimum Qualifications A minimum of an Associates Degree in Child Development, Human Development, Early Childhood, Child and Family Studies, or related field. Individual with AA, AAS, BA, and BS in an unrelated field will be required to obtain a Child Development Associate Credential and six additional Early Childhood Education courses. Knowledge of psychological and biological needs of infants and toddlers. Ability to prepare and present educational materials. Professional knowledge of instructional methods, materials, and program development. Ability to establish and maintain effective teaching/working relationship with public, children, parents, and coworkers. Organizational skills and knowledge. Willingness to travel as required, and to work in a multi-county program in the areas of Weakley, Gibson, and Henry counties. Personal transportation required. Special Instructions to
