POSITION OVERVIEW
This position is responsible for coordinating the day-to-day flow of on-site facilitators, including unpaid volunteers and paid floor staff. The Volunteer and Facilitation Coordinator is expected to actively recruit new volunteers from the community and coordinate all on-site, guest-facing activations. Effective communication skills, commitment to guest and volunteer experience, and a passion for learning and sharing the principles of science, technology, engineering, and math are essential attributes for this position.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintain knowledge of current museum exhibits and program content to convey accurate information to volunteers, guests, and members of the community Update and maintain an active volunteer website and volunteer opportunities Actively recruit volunteers from the community Maintain outstanding relationships with sponsors and corporate volunteer groups Train volunteers and staff on new activities and procedures Coordinate social opportunities for volunteers Manage volunteer recruitment and coordination for (and at) special events Manage the Youth CR3W Program Be the first point of contact for all facilitators on the floor and fill in where necessary Perform core operational functions of guest safety and wayfinding Assist during emergency, lost child, and evacuation situations Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS & SPECIAL CONDITIONS
Must be at least 18 years old Availability to work peak days and hours, a combination of weekdays, weekends, and holidays. Previous management experience preferred Have a willingness to take initiative and work independently Professional appearance and demeanor required Be reliable and flexible to a changing environment Knowledge of customer service principles, techniques, and standards Ability and desire to work with and inspire volunteers, staff, and visitors of all ages and learning backgrounds Ability to learn and convey accurate information with effective communication skills Ability to solve practical problems and make decisions confidently and efficiently Ability to work in both fast-paced and calm environments Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with multiple personality types Ability to work independently and cooperatively with a team Ability to stay organized, on task, and on schedule Show enthusiasm about engaging the community with the wonders of STEM education First Aid/CPR/AED (Adult and/or Pediatric) certification preferred The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts requiring normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, use of safe work practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls and observance of fire regulations. Typically, walking, standing, bending and carrying light items (up to 20 pounds unassisted), and 50lbs assisted are required. At times, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. Also, the employee must have manual dexterity, visual and auditory acuity. Some repetitive motion is involved.
