JEFFERSON COUNTY SCHOOLS COLLEGE AND CAREER ADVISING COORDINATOR JOB DESCRIPTION JOB SUMMARY
This position will involve working collaboratively with the District to assess College and Career Advising strategies and drop out prevention. The College and Career Advising Coordinator will provide on-going consultation and support on college and career pathways. The position is established for the purpose of developing systems for providing college and career support for students and prevent dropout. It will help with compliance with Federal, State, County and District policies, regulations and/or procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree Minimum of five years’ work experience advising students on postsecondary opportunities and dropout prevention. Deliver individualized support by interacting daily with high school students and/or parents to provide support through the college admissions and financial aid process. Create positive relationships with 12th grade students and families. Provide accurate, complete, and sensitive information to encourage students to consider a broad range of postsecondary choices. Assist students in completing and submitting admission and financial aid applications Assist in the implementation of statewide college access and success initiatives Establish productive working relationships with administration, school counselors, and teachers Organize group events that encourage students and their families to consider, plan for, and apply to colleges and universities. Visit classrooms, assemblies, and club meetings to offer services and emphasize the importance of college. Partner with postsecondary institutions to provide college access and success programming. (Ex- UTK Math and Science, college fairs) Host regular workshops for the families of students to discuss topics such as financial aid, college planning timeline, the importance of a postsecondary education, and opportunities available. Assist in data collection and evaluation Maintain ongoing data collection on student college preparation progress (i.e. college visits, college application submission, FAFSA completion) and complete reports documenting progress and outcome data as required. Monitor success of the program, including levels of participation, quality of activities and impact in terms of reduction of drop-out rate, student achievement, attendance, educational expectations, and behaviors. Collaborate with the CTE office in data collection and dissemination. Develop regular communication protocols with stakeholders Create and send out monthly newsletter for counseling department Maintain contact with early graduates regarding opportunities and events Maintain expertise in admissions and financial aid advising. Complete other duties as assigned by the high school administration.
