PURPOSE AND SCOPE
: Southern Avenue Charter School is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Part-Time School Truancy Officer to monitor student attendance, engage with families to address absenteeism, and support school efforts to ensure all students attend school regularly. This role is key in supporting academic success through consistent student attendance.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
: Monitor daily attendance records for excessive absences or patterns of truancy. Contact parents/guardians regarding unexcused absences and work collaboratively to identify causes. Conduct home visits and wellness checks when necessary to engage families and provide support. Partner with school counselors, teachers, and administration to develop intervention plans. Maintain accurate records of all contacts, interventions, and outcomes. Collaborate with the Shelby County Juvenile Court and other agencies when necessary. Prepare and submit truancy-related reports as required by local and state policies. Serve as a liaison between the school and families to encourage student engagement.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
: High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred. Experience working with youth, families, or in educational settings preferred. Familiarity with school attendance laws and local truancy procedures. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work independently, manages sensitive information, and navigates challenging family dynamics with empathy.
