Position:

Two full-time Housing Counselor positions are currently openin our Barre, Vermont office. HousingCounselors work as integral members of the Family and Community SupportServices team, assisting individuals andfamilies who are unhoused or at risk of homelessness in finding andmaintaining safe, stable housing throughassessment and planning, housing searches, budget support, casemanagement, and other supportive services.

In addition to providing direct services to meet immediate, essentialneeds, Housing Counselors contribute to long-termsolutions to homelessness and poverty by collaborating with otherservice providers to facilitate access to housing andrelated resources, increasing awareness of issues impacting people withlow incomes and housing instability, andadvocating for the housing and other basic needs of our communitymembers.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for the Housing Counselorposition include a combination of experience inproviding direct services to vulnerable populations and educationrelated to human services or social work, withpreferred qualifications including a bachelors degree in human servicesor social work and Ready to Rent or similarcertification.

Additional requirements include:

Understanding of issues related to poverty and barriers faced by peoplewith low incomes.

Demonstrated respect and positive regard for people accessing services.

Strong communication, de-escalation, and crisis intervention skills.

Familiarity with and willingness to work cooperatively with communityresources and partners, including otherservice providers, landlords, and criminal justice system agencies.

Strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain documentationof services.

Ability to maintain professional boundaries.

Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.

Compensation & Benefits:

This is a full-time (32 – 40 hours/week)position with a Monday-Friday schedule, offeringcompetitive pay at $21.76 to $25.47/hour and generous paid time off,insurance, and retirement plan benefits.
