Position Summary/Department Summary:
The Pediatric Intermediate Care Unit (PIMCU) at Boston Children’s Hospital is an inpatient unit dedicated to the care of children who require more intensive nursing care than what the general inpatient floors can provide. The PIMCU cares for patients with severe, acute illness who do not require advanced life-sustaining technologies that are specific to the ICU, as well as patients with acute exacerbations of chronic illness who have intensive nursing needs. We are currently searching for a 40-hour social worker for the PIMCU.
Key Responsibilities:
Psychosocial assessments and ongoing support during admission for all families
Supportive counseling as families process and cope with medical diagnoses
Develops and maintains effective therapeutic relationships with patients and families
Bereavement counseling
Crisis intervention
Psychosocial consultation and support to the multidisciplinary health care team Minimum qualifications
Education:
Master’s degree in social work
Experience:
Strong clinical skills and experience with various therapeutic modalities.
Previous medical social work experience preferred
Persons from diverse backgrounds encouraged to apply
Spanish language skills are a plus
Licensure/Certifications:
LCSW in the state of MA required. LICSW in the state of MA highly preferred.
