Position Summary/Department Summary:

Boston Children’sHospital’s acclaimed Social Work Emergency Services team respondsto social needs and issues in the Emergency Department andthroughout inpatient services. We are seeing to add two per diemsocial workers to our Emergency Services (ED) team!

KeyResponsibilities:
  • Responds to social needs and issues in theEmergency Department and throughout the inpatient services.
  • Completes biopsychosocial assessments and other specialized traumaassessments.
  • Provides trauma-informed, strengths-basedinterventions on behalf of patients and families.
  • Screens andassesses patients for needs regarding social determinants ofhealth.
  • Provides case management and advocacy on behalf ofpatients and families.
  • Collaborates with multi-disciplinary teamsand community providers on behalf of patients and families.
  • Provides brief, solution-focused interventions and develops safetyplans with patients as needed.
  • Uses techniques includingmotivational interviewing, reflective listening, and trauma-focusedcognitive-behavioral treatment to support patients and families
  • Provides crisis intervention and problem-solving support as needed
  • Provides information, referrals, and counseling relative to childprotective needs, intimate partner violence, end of life needs,community violence, substance use/abuse, mental health concerns,and homelessness.
  • Provides education, crisis intervention, andemotional support to patients and families as needed.
  • Communicates effectively and proactively with various healthcareprofessionals and team members.
  • Develops and maintains effectivetherapeutic relationships with patients and families
MinimumQualifications Education:
  • A master’s degree in social work
Experience:
  • Previous medical social work experience highlypreferred
  • Strong clinical skills and experience with varioustherapeutic modalities.
  • Cultural sensitivity and comfort with awide range of racial and ethnic populations.
  • Bicultural/Bilingualcompetency is a plus.
  • Must be comfortable in a fast-paced anddynamic work environment (sense of humor is valued!

).

Licensure/Certification:
  • LCSW in the state of MA required, LICSWin the state of MA preferred This position is 100% onsite
