Description of Work This position is at Mountain View Correctional Institution in Spruce Pine, NC. Primary purpose of position is to provide direct clinical services to offenders at Mountain View Correctional Institution and consultations to staff about behavioral management strategies for problem offenders. Direct services to offenders include mental health screenings, evaluations, individual and group psychotherapy and consultations about individual cases to mental health, medical, custody, and classification staff. Performs diagnosis, treatment plan development, implementation of the treatment plan, documentation of clinical services, & final case disposition. Also provides appropriate advanced individual psychotherapy for referred offenders and group psychotherapy for offenders with diagnosed mental illness. May provide ongoing educational/therapeutic groups for such areas as anger control, assertiveness and problem solving. Responsible for mental health consultations regarding patients with correctional staff. Serves as a resource for other staff providing services to offenders. Responsible for conducting staff training on various relevant mental health topics with regard to the offender population, management of the mentally ill and developmentally disabled and management of suicide precautions.
