Summary:
Completes clinical assessments of bio-psychosocial needs, providesinformation and short-term therapeutic counseling to patients andtheir families in relation to social, psychological, financial andfamily situations. Assists in identification of barriers to careand provides cancer support resources to the patient andfamily.
Responsibilities:
Patients and families are served by providing social supportservices. Performs duties and conducts interpersonal relationshipsin a manner designed to project a positive image of the departmentand hospital. Insures that contacts with physicians and otherhealthcare team members is friendly, helpful, and courteous.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Master of Social Work from a program accredited by the Councilon Social Work Education is required.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Background medical social worker preferred.
LICENSURE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION LCSW
(Licensed Clinical Social Worker) or LCSW-P (LicensedClinical Social Worker – Provisional) who has passed the NCLicensing Exam.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS
Strong interpersonal communication skills and problemassessment when working with patients, families and the health careteam. Ability to independently make decisions and provide clinicalintervention.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Exposure to airborne pathogens requiring the use of protectiveequipment, some evening working hours due to support groupmeetings.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Frequent walking, standing and sitting throughout shift.
Occasional lifting of patients with assistance. Speech, hearing andsight are necessities for patient interaction.
