Bishop Gadsden is known as the Southeast’s leading life care retirement community. We are located just 10 minutes from downtown Charleston! The purpose of this position is to manage the delivery of services to meet the social and emotional health needs of residents in the Estes Community and Arcadia Memory Support, to promote the highest level of functioning and quality of life.
A Typical Day:
Develop and implement social service programs and policies to meet residents’ social and emotional needs. Assist the Christie Rehab Social Worker; as well as, provide supervision for social work interns.
Develop one-to-one professional relationships with residents and families to provide social support and counseling. Counsel residents and families in dealing with feelings and issues surrounding emotional, mental, environmental, or physical limitations and losses as well as end of life issues. Coordinate family and community resources as needed to promote emotional security and work to resolve residents’ problems with mental, environmental, and physical limitations. Provide counseling for death/dying issues and/or bereavement for residents and family members as needed. Monitor the social/health needs of residents who are unable or unwilling to leave their residence or who show signs of increasing mental or physical disability. Schedule and facilitate care plan meetings in the Estes Community to confer with residents and families at intervals no less than those defined in regulations. Schedule and attend care plan meetings in Arcadia.
Requirements
What We Need In A Candidate:
Masters in Social Work, Counseling, or equivalent education, with relevant counseling and social services experience, preferably in a CCRC or retirement community setting. Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and written, with residents, families, and staff. Ability to convey a sense of caring and respect to residents and families, regardless of circumstances. Basic computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and written. Interpersonal skills are necessary for exchanging information as well as maintaining a courteous relationship with the residents, families, visitors and Bishop Gadsden employees. Ability to lift and/or carry weights of up to 50 pounds.
