Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Provide evidence-based individual mental health counseling to adults receiving services at Thrive Alabama (TA), including those at risk of or living with HIV and other chronic diseases; the effects of trauma and violence; substance use; grief and loss; and life transitions. 2. Provide evidence-based group treatment to individuals coping with similar life stressors (e.g. depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, HIV or GAT). 3. Use a variety of evidence-based therapies in collaboration with clients, dependent upon clients’ assessed needs and progress, including cognitive-behavioral therapies, behavioral therapies, and trauma-focused therapies. 4. Collaborate with mental health counselors, social workers, substance use counselors and staff, nurses, laboratory technicians, health education staff, medical providers, managers, and other staff, to ensure quality, comprehensive client care. 5. Plan and facilitate treatment and/or support groups in Huntsville and satellite clinics when there is an appropriate number of people for who express a commitment to participate in a particular group (e.g., HIV, grief, and loss; trauma-recovery; coping with anxiety, GAT). 6. Provide evidence-based individual counseling at all satellite clinics, as assigned, either face-to-face or through telehealth. 7. MCoordinate and integrate mental health services with other agency services by actively participating in weekly interdisciplinary team meetings (ITM) as assigned. 8. Document services and other contacts in a timely manner, per current policies and procedures, using electronic medical software and complete any reports assigned by the department director. 9. Create, implement, and update individualized treatment plans, based on a biopsychosocial assessment of individual clients and discharge clients when treatment goals are met per policies and procedures. 10. Complete daily, weekly, monthly, biannual, and/or other requested reports in a timely manner, including peer reviews of other counselors’ client documentation. 11. Provide crisis intervention services as assigned by Director of Behavioral Health. 12. Assist the director with revision of counseling-related policies and procedures, forms, in accordance with agency, state and federal policies and counseling best practices. 13. Collaborate with the Director of Behavioral Health on quality improvement or enhancement of department activities. 14. Perform duties consistent with agency, state of Alabama, regulatory bodies, and federal policies, procedures, and statutes. 15. Provide clinical supervision of interns if assigned by Director of Behavioral Health. 16. Complete responsibilities associated with any assigned grant-funded activities. 17. All other duties as assigned by Director of Behavioral Health. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 1. Knowledge of the concepts and principles of assessment and treatment in counseling and behavioral healthcare, including evidence-based techniques, to provide appropriate care for clients with identified mental health needs, including any related to trauma, grief and loss and substance use. 2. Strong knowledge of ethics and legal duties regarding mental health counseling with individuals, families, and groups. 3. Knowledge and skills regarding provision of evidence-based individual and group therapy. 4. Knowledge and skills regarding diversity, cultural competency, and cultural humility. 5. Knowledge and skills regarding human development, family life cycles, stages of group development. 6. Knowledge and skills regarding crisis intervention, suicide prevention and intervention, and violence prevention. 7. Knowledge and skills regarding human behavior across the lifespan, from cradle to grave. 8. Knowledge and skills regarding trauma-informed care for survivors of trauma and violence. 9. Knowledge and skills regarding effective and ethical use of telehealth services in behavioral health. 10. Ability to interact effectively with clients and families from diverse populations. 11. Strong desire to work with stigmatized populations, including men who have sex with men (MSM), persons living with HIV/AIDS, and persons identifying as
