Mental Health Provider – Shelter-Based Services Vision Quest Solutions LLC Port Charlotte, FL 33948 Vision Quest Solution is actively recruiting Mental Health Providers in Charlotte County, FL to work within the Behavioral Health and Emergency Response Department. New hires will report to the Shelter Medical Manager and we’re offering Full/Part Time and Contract opportunities. Please note the compensation has not been determined the range in the posting is just a very rough estimate and will be determined based on your specialty and experience. Position Summary The Mental Health Provider plays a critical role in delivering emotional, psychological, and behavioral support to individuals and families residing in shelters due to crisis or displacement events. Whether in the aftermath of natural disasters, emergency evacuations, or mass care events, this role ensures that shelter residents receive appropriate and timely mental health care in a trauma-informed and culturally responsive manner. Working collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary shelter team, the Mental Health Provider helps individuals process acute stress, mitigate the risk of escalation or harm, and connect to ongoing services. The position demands flexibility, compassion, and an understanding of disaster mental health principles. Key Responsibilities Direct Mental Health Services Provide on-site crisis counseling, psychological first aid, and emotional support to shelter residents. Conduct individual assessments to identify mental health needs, trauma symptoms, or safety concerns. Deliver evidence-based, trauma-informed interventions suited to a shelter or mass care setting. Crisis Management & Referral Identify residents in acute psychiatric distress and facilitate referrals to appropriate emergency or inpatient services. Collaborate with medical staff, case managers, and security to ensure safe and appropriate behavioral responses. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of local behavioral health resources and support networks. Group Support & Psychoeducation Lead or co-facilitate support groups or therapeutic activities tailored to diverse populations (e.g., children, older adults, individuals with disabilities). Provide psychoeducation on stress, coping, grief, and resilience to residents and staff. Support wellness promotion and emotional recovery through engagement and outreach. Interdisciplinary Collaboration Work as part of an integrated care team with shelter operations, nursing, case management, and logistics staff. Participate in case coordination meetings and incident debriefings. Contribute to a safe and therapeutic shelter environment by modeling trauma-informed approaches. Minimum Qualifications Active and unrestricted license as a Licensed Mental Health Professional, such as: o Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) o Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) o Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) o Or equivalent license in behavioral health Demonstrated experience in: o Trauma-informed care o Crisis intervention/counseling o Working with diverse and vulnerable populations (e.g., those affected by poverty, homelessness, or displacement) Understanding of disaster mental health frameworks, such as: o FEMA Crisis Counseling Assistance and Training Program (CCP) o American Red Cross Disaster Mental Health o SAMHSA Disaster Behavioral Health guidelines Preferred Qualifications Bilingual or multilingual skills preferred. Completion of
FEMA ICS
100/200/700 or equivalent disaster response training preferred. Experience in shelter environments, public health emergencies, or humanitarian aid settings preferred. Key Competencies Empathy, cultural humility, and resilience under pressure. Strong verbal de-escalation and conflict-resolution skills. Excellent documentation and clinical judgment.
