Responsibilities:

You may be requested to perform job-related responsibilities and tasks other than those stated in this job description. 1. Provide spiritual guidance, based on the integration of faith and practice, as basic counseling tool combined with tools used in a grace-based environment with an emphasis on Choice Theory. 2. Perform individual counseling, group counseling and classroom facilitation that address life controlling issues, with specialization in substance abuse, co-dependency, relapse prevention, and relational issues. 3. Perform assessments to identify all problem areas and refer educational, legal, medical and social issues to the appropriate staff members. 4. Complete and maintain mandatory trainings. 5. Participate in the therapeutic community, by using cognitive behavioral treatment modality in programming. 6. Ensure all performance measures are met on caseload. 7. Ensure files are maintained in accordance with program standards. 8. Ensure bio-psycho-social assessment are completed within required timeframes. 9. Ensure all Counseling Activities and Therapeutic Activities are met within the required timeframes. 10. Ensure appropriate discharge and after-care plans are completed. 11. Ensure proper management and oversight of program participants funds to include program fees and savings. 12. Work in collaboration with other social service staff to ensure all program objectives are met. 13. Supervise, evaluate and report program participants progress and provide recommendations for advancement or placement in the program. 14. Assists with administering drug tests, searches and station duties as needed and when requested by supervisors. 15. Perform all other tasks as requested, i.e., speak in behalf of the Mission at different events; attend student events such as the Christmas Party and Graduations.

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in any of the social sciences, and six months of professional experience in chemical addiction and/or mental health counseling; or
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in any area of study, and one year of professional experience in chemical addiction and/or mental health counseling; or
  • Ph.D. from an accredited college or university in chemical addiction and/or mental health counseling; or
  • a Ph.D. from an accredited college or university in any area of study, and six months of professional experience in chemical addiction and/or mental health counseling; or
  • an Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university, and four years of professional experience in chemical addiction and/or mental health counseling; or a high school diploma/GED, and six years of professional experience in chemical addiction and/or mental health counseling.

And Two years’ experience in a licensed substance abuse therapeutic community treatment program

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Working knowledge of group dynamics, with the ability to provide competent treatment as evidenced by previous job placement and educational experience.
  • Knowledge of effective and efficient methods for organizing and maintaining records.
  • Ability to apply discretion and independent judgment when addressing and resolving substance abuse matters.
  • Ability to maintain the security of confidential records.
  • Ability to render competent casework service.
  • Ability to plan, develop and coordinate meetings for clients.
  • Ability to maintain the trust and confidence of the Program Supervisor/Director.
  • Ability and willingness to be involved in the Twelve Step program is strongly encouraged.
  • Ability to comprehend procedures for maintaining case files within contract compliance.
  • Ability to work flexible hours if needed.
