To protect your workforce, we are at your fingertips: internationalsos.comJob DescriptionThis is an on-call casual position responsible for responding to disasters in support of state and federal government efforts. The Crisis Counselor may be deployed for periods ranging from 14 to 120 days to areas impacted by significant disasters across the United States and its territories. Compensation rates will vary depending on the specific disaster and location. The Crisis Counselor will provide emergency behavioral health care and case management for individuals effected by a natural disaster. This work will be provided onsite. Key ResponsibilitiesOffer immediate psychological first aid and emotional support to individuals affected by disasters, helping them cope with trauma and stress. Conduct assessments to identify individual and community needs, prioritizing those requiring urgent mental health support. Utilize crisis intervention techniques to de-escalate situations and provide appropriate coping strategies for individuals in distress. Serve as a liaison between affected individuals and local relief services, ensuring effective communication and access to necessary resources. Collaborate with clients to create personalized crisis response plans that address their immediate emotional and practical needs. Lead support groups and community workshops to provide psychoeducation, sharing coping strategies and promoting resilience. Work alongside local, state, and federal disaster response agencies to coordinate efforts and ensure comprehensive care for those affected. Maintain accurate and confidential records of counseling sessions, assessments, and treatment plans, complying with relevant privacy regulations. Be sensitive to the diverse backgrounds of clients, adapting counseling approaches to be culturally appropriate and effective. Engage in

Self-Care:

Actively participate in self-care practices and supervision to mitigate the emotional impact of working in disaster settings and maintain personal well-being. 

Ongoing Training:

Participate in regular training and professional development opportunities related to disaster response and mental health best practices. Crosstrain to work within in the clinics, emergency room, and inpatient units. On-call rotation schedule participation as needed. This list is non-exhaustive, and the role holder may be required to undertake additional duties that are not specifically listed above.

QualificationsRequired Skills and Knowledge Previous experience in mental health counseling or other related fields. Familiarity with community mental health resources. Excellent written and verbal communications skills. Ability to build rapport with clients. Strong leadership qualities. 

Education/License Required:

Master’s degree in psychology or social work. Currently Licensed in State US State or Territory. 

Physical Demands:

 Work is normally performed in Austere conditions Work involves sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time. May require bending, stooping and lifting up to 15 lbs.

 US Citizen Live near a major airport Be able to respond to site within 72 hours Clear a Child Neglect and Abuse Check and other background requirements. Additional InformationPay range is based on several factors and may vary in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits. Final salary and offer will be determined by the applicant’s background, experience, skills, internal equity, and alignment with geographical market data.
