Full Job Description Job Summary:

The Mental Health Counselor provides compassionate, evidence-based support to individuals experiencing emotional, psychological, or behavioral challenges. This role involves conducting assessments, developing individualized treatment plans, facilitating therapy sessions (individual, group, or family), and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive care. The counselor promotes mental wellness and helps clients build coping strategies, improve functioning, and achieve personal goals.

Key Responsibilities:

Conduct clinical assessments and evaluations to determine clients’ mental health needs and diagnoses. Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on clients’ goals and therapeutic needs. Provide therapeutic services including individual, group, and/or family counseling. Monitor client progress, adjust treatment plans as necessary, and maintain accurate, up-to-date clinical documentation. Collaborate with psychiatrists, case managers, social workers, and other professionals to coordinate care. Provide crisis intervention and support in emergency situations. Educate clients and families on mental health conditions, treatment options, and coping strategies. Maintain client confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and all applicable ethical and legal standards. Participate in ongoing training, supervision, and professional development activities. Advocate for clients and connect them with community resources when appropriate.

Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field. Licensure (or license-eligible status) in the state of practice (e.g., LMHC, LCSW, LPC, LPCC). At least 1-2 years of clinical experience in a mental health setting preferred. Strong understanding of therapeutic techniques such as CBT, DBT, trauma-informed care, or other evidence-based modalities. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and documentation skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. Commitment to cultural competence, diversity, and inclusion in therapeutic practice.
