Your impact Recognize and respond to the mental health services that promote social/emotional wellness and development for all students. Advocate for the mental health needs of all students by offering directions that improve awareness of mental health, evaluation and advisement speak to academic, career, and social/emotional development, short-term counseling intervention, and referrals to community resources for long terms support. Serve as the school mental health contact and its SAFE Coordinator by assisting with Threat to Suicide and Harm to Self or Others Protocols and follow-up re-entry meetings to create Student Mental Health Safety Plans as well as the designee for the school with the district You will be responsible for: Create and execute school counseling programs that promote academic, career, and social/emotional success for all students. Serve on the School Threat Management Team. Encourage students to express their feelings and discuss what is happening in their lives, helping them to develop insight into themselves or their relationships. Develop coping skills. Counsel students, individually or in group sessions, to assist in overcoming dependencies, Carry instruction that proactively improves awareness of mental health; promotes positive, healthy behaviors; and seeks to remove the shame associated with mental health issues Recognize mental health warning signs Provide short-term counseling and crisis intervention focused on mental health or situational concerns such as grief or difficult transitions also to ensure the safety of the students and others. Provide referrals to school and community resources that treat mental health issues (suicidal ideation, violence, abuse, and depression) with the intent of removing barriers to learning and helping the student return to the classroom Educate teachers, administrators, families, and community stakeholders about the mental health concerns of students, and collaborate with school and community stakeholders to meet the needs of the whole child and to ensure students and their families have access to mental health services Recognize and address barriers to accessing mental health services and the associated shame, including cultural principles and language barriers Follow guidelines regarding confidentiality, the difference between public and private information, and consultation Counsel and Support students to overcome obstacles to their academic, career, and social/emotional development by addressing their mental health needs coping technique Fill out and maintain student-related paperwork, including district-mandated forms. Collect information about students through interviews, observation, or tests. Assess students for risk of suicide and self-harm attempts. Maintain confidentiality of records relating to students’ treatment. Counsel family members to assist them in understanding, dealing with, or supporting students. Coordinate or direct employee workshops, courses, or training about mental health issues. Perform other job-related duties as assigned. To be successful, you will bring/have Master’s degree in counseling / social work or any related field 2-3 years of experience as a mental health counselor, preferably in a school setting It is a plus if you have School Counseling Certification or a Mental Health Counseling license You are skilled in Active Listening Service Orientation Judgment and Decision Making Complex Problem Solving Coordination Instructing Time Management Trauma-informed You are able to Identifying the developmental needs of others and coaching, mentoring, or otherwise helping others to improve their knowledge or skills.
