Summary of Job:
Serve as second responder during mobile response encounters with individuals experiencing distress related to mental illness, developmental disabilities, and/or substance abuse. Support Clinician on scene and promote safe and successful engagement with Individuals in crisis through the application of scene safety concepts and de-escalation techniques.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Guest Care & Advocacy:
Respond to all assigned dispatches within response guidelines and using established policies and procedures. Support rapport building and de-escalation, following the lead of the Clinician on scene. Actively facilitate encounter from initial contact until final disposition or until Individual is successfully and appropriately linked to a higher level of care. Provide follow-up as directed to identify unanticipated crisis escalation and initiate renewed intervention to promote and support completed linkages to services and resources, to identify barriers to care, and to troubleshoot with Individuals to overcome those barriers. Provides support for participant wellness, groups, and other activities that strengthen recovery. Ensures all program elements and expectations are being met. Provides peer support to engage participants in a recovery partnership and assists in identifying participant’s hopes and dreams and the solutions they are seeking. Teaches recovery and life skills using recovery tools. Models hope, personal responsibility and self-advocacy to demonstrate how recovery goals can be respectfully met and how a belief in self is maintained. Cultivates connectedness in the person’s life (self, others, the environment, and meaning and purpose).
Compliance & Risk Management:
Collaborate with team members, Individuals, involved third parties, law enforcement agents, and EMS responders to support scene safety. Actively collaborate with mobile response team members and/or shift supervisors for decisions outside scope of certification/licensure or experience. Complete appropriate, timely, and accurate documentation in accordance with established criteria. Completes clinical notes as required. Responsible for facilitating, documentation, transfers and transition of guest care. Keeps abreast of all federal and state regulations and laws and all Recovery Innovations policies and procedures as they presently exist and as they change or are modified. Understands and adheres to Recovery Innovations compliance standards as they appear in the Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policies.
Cross Functional Collaboration:
When not actively dispatched, assist the Crisis Center with answering calls, providing resources, and facilitating linkages to care. Assists with initial introductions to clinical team, serving as point of contact for participants. Coordinates with the individual’s clinical team and other supports to arrange services or resources to help the individual achieve their goals. Coordinate transportation to external resources and facilitate community integration. Develops and maintains positive and constructive working relationships with team members

Job Requirements:

Education/Licenses:
Certification as a Peer Support Specialist required. High School Diploma or equivalent.
Experience:
Lived experience requiring mental health and/or substance use services. One (1) year of full-time behavioral health experience. Additional training in peer-related topics required. Experience in community navigation, resume writing, curriculum development, and family peer support.
Skills:
Basic computer skills. Ability to teach/train recovery information and recovery tools. Effective communication skills. Must be able to pass de-escalation training, as defined by state requirements.
Driving Requirements:
Daily driving is required for this position, must meet all requirements outlined in Recovery Innovations driving policy.
Work Schedule:
Working beyond scheduled shift when necessary. Miscellaneous Requirement(s): Applicants must be at least 18 years old unless residing in a state where funder or government regulations set a different minimum age requirement. Travel required based on business need. Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality (HIPAA guidelines and regulations) and professionalism. We are a Second-Chance Employer Must be able to pass a seven-year background check. Must be able to pass substance abuse testing and/or tuberculous testing (if applicable). Must be able to obtain designated fingerprinting clearance in applicable states. Must be able to pass education verification check. Must be able to pass three-year motor vehicle report and meet minimum eligibility requirements criteria of insurance carrier (if driving is required for this position). A Direct Service Competency Checklist must be completed as part of the new hire onboarding process.
Physical Demands :
May include work close to the eyes and substantial motions of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers. Frequent sitting, standing, walking, handling, finger dexterity; eye-hand-foot coordination, use of corrected vision; color vision; use of auditory senses. May be required to lift up to twenty (20) pounds. Work Environment May work in an office environment or behavioral health facility. May have contact with individuals who are agitated and/or confused. Warmline over-the-phone Peer Support Specialist will work in a remotely and not be in an office or behavioral health facility.
