Job Purpose:

The Family Support Provider (FSP) assists families by providing education and empowering them to advocate for their child/children. By using the System of Care Values and Guiding Principles, education laws, policies and procedures, the FSP will develop goals with which the family agrees. Although the goals and objectives are a way to address current needs, it must also capitalize on opportunities to teach self-advocacy to the family.

Qualifications:

Possession of a High School Diploma or equivalent. Minimum of two (2) years training and/or experience in advocacy, or related life experiences. Caregiver of an individual with Mental Health/Emotional, Behavioral and/or Development Disorders. Must have resided in Missouri for at least two (2) consecutive years previous to hire date. Must have current driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Core Job Duties:

Support the family in developing the basic wraparound principle of “voice and choice.” Assist the family in identifying their natural supports. Participate in developing a family plan/course of action based on the individual needs of each family. Assist the family in identifying their child’s strengths and the strengths of the family. Use sound personal judgment to identify available options to meet each family’s particular needs. Educate the family concerning agency interaction, benefits and programs. Recognize that each child client and family may have different barriers to social economic and employment opportunities and will have varied levels of need to overcome these barriers. Provide targeted support services that are caregiver centered to assist in keeping the family together and preventing out of home placement. Provide transportation for the child and their family when providing necessary interventions. Participates in clinical staffing to include written notes regarding the child’s and their family’s cooperation and participation with program expectations. Orally communicate information effectively and accurately. Assure program operates within the constraints of the agency’s certification (CARF, DMH) standards and strategic plan related to clinical care. Abide by program and agency policies and procedures.
