Clarificion from the agency Open only to current, permanent Salisbury VA Health Care System Employees Videos Duties The incumbent is a member of Mental Health and Behavioral Sciences (MHBS) and embedded into Primary Care (PC) clinics the North Charlotte VA Clinic providing a full range of mental health services to Veterans including: 1. Brief assessment, including risk assessment, diagnosis and (where approprie) referral for specialized psychiric services 2. Same-day urgent/crisis management services 3. Short-term individual, family or couples counseling, and/or psychoeducional groups 4. Consultion for the PC team, or other clinical care teams, in the clinical management of their pients The incumbent will work within the Behavioral Health Laborory (BHL) to assist in the delivery of specific evidence-based services to PC pients. These services will involve working with other supportive services, assisting with adherence to nional guidelines by providing PC physicians with “on-time, on-target” informion and collaboring in making approprie evidence-based care decisions. The incumbent will also provide outpient services to include brief functional assessment and trement including individual, group or family psychotherapy, crisis intervention, advocacy, and coordinion of linkages to other VA or community service providers/agencies as needed by the Veteran. The incumbent will provide case management services to assist Veteran pients to gain access to needed medical, social, educional, and other services. The incumbent provides these services in a very independent fashion with minimal consultive supervision with the administrive supervisor, the Psychology Program Manager. The incumbent will also willingly accept additional and special assignments th are necessary to meet program goals or Veteran needs. The incumbent will complete all clinical charting and documention required by the Medical Center or healthcare system in a timely and accure manner, as approprie.

Licensure:
Persons hired or reassigned to LPMHC positions in the GS-0183 series in VHA must hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to independently practice as a Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor, which includes diagnosis and trement.
NOTE:
It is VHA policy th a LPMHC who does not yet have a license th allows independent practice must be supervised by a licensed independent practitioner of the same discipline who is a VA staff member and who has access to the electronic health record. (1) Exception. VHA may waive the licensure requirement for persons who are otherwise qualified, pending completion of ste prerequisites for licensure. This exception only applies up to the full performance level. For grade levels or above the full performance level, the candide must be licensed. (2) The appointing official may waive the requirement of licensure for a period not to exceed 3 years for a LPMHC th provides care under the clinical supervision of a licensed LPMHC who is or above the full performance level. This exception only applies the entry level (GS-9). For grade levels or above the full performance level, the candide must be licensed. The Human Resources Office will provide the unlicensed LPMHC in writing the requirement to obtain licensure, the de by which the license must be acquired, and the consequences for not becoming licensed by the deadline. The written notice must be provided prior to the entrance on duty de. (3) Failure to Obtain License. In all cases, LPMHCs must actively pursue meeting ste prerequisites for licensure starting from the de of their appointment. LPMHCs must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, Part II, chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3.j. Grade Determinion GS-9: Experience, Educion, and Licensure. The GS-9 grade level is the entry grade level for LPMHCs with less than one year of experience(post-master’s degree) or for LPMHCs the master’s or doctoral level) who are gradues not yet licensed the independent practice level. Unlicensed LPMHCs the GS-9 grade level have completed the required educion listed in paragraph 3.b., and are working toward completion of prerequisites for licensure.
