The Counseling Center assists NC State students experiencing personal, academic or vocational problems. The goal of the Counseling Center is to provide students with professional counseling services and outreach to help them cope with issues that may impede successful academic performance. The Counseling Center also offers crisis intervention and psychological/ psychiatric assessment as well as consultation with others who have concerns about the mental/emotional state of NC State students. Using evidenced-based quality of care Essential Job Duties This position will provide professional individual and group counseling services and outreach to NC State students as well as consultation to University administrators, staff and others who have concerns about the mental/emotional status of NC State students. The staff member will be embedded within the academic college to primarily serve students of that college, consult and build relationships with faculty and gain an understanding of the unique needs of the population served. This position will assist in all areas of Counseling Center functioning including but not limited to:
Provide individual and group counseling of NC State students/clients (personal, academic, and vocational assessment and counseling); psychological assessment; developmental and crisis counseling; couples counseling; evaluation of students for withdrawal from the University
Develop and participate in outreach programming, hold lets talk drop in spaces
Consult with faculty staff, parents, and others
Provide evaluations and recommendations regarding students with academic and conduct problems
Participate in after hours “on call” and possible evening office hours
General administrative responsibilities Other Responsibilities This position may involve participation in supervision/training of graduate students and program evaluation
All other duties as assigned
Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience Master’s degree required and a doctorate preferred in psychology, counseling, or clinical social work or closely-related field
Appropriate licensure must be obtained/maintained according to NC laws Other Required Qualifications Established commitment to culturally informed and responsive services
Strong clinical skills
Experience in handling crisis situations Preferred Qualifications Experience working in a college/university counseling center
Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively within a large mental health services agency
Previous work with electronic records and scheduling, preferably Titanium
Experience in risk assessment
Ability to provide clinical supervision Required License(s) or Certification(s) Must meet all state law requirements for licensure in mental health discipline Valid NC Driver’s License required No
